Why is a random Twitter rant on the front page of hacker news?
Also re: Jew haters, he does realize that the top two people at Facebook are Jewish, right? (Mark and Sheryl)
- Analemma_ 8y agoBecause this isn’t a Twitter rant from a random nobody; New Zealand’s privacy commissioner probably has regulatory authority (or at least influence) to force Facebook to change its behavior, at least in NZ. If he’s using language this strong that probably indicates a crackdown is coming.
- paulcole 8y agoIf NZ politicians push the issue, FB will just leave NZ and users will get a GDRP-style message letting them know why.
- mikro2nd 8y ago"And in related news, NZ's per-capita productivity doubled last year after..."
- xupybd 8y agoYeah we are 4 million people. Facebook could just block us an move on with little change in revenue. I don't think it's a huge issue for Facebook. It is a bit of an issue for New Zealand. Our officials may want to act a little more professionally in the public space.

- AnimalMuppet 8y agoWho (other than you) mentioned Jews? Do you think being Jews makes them immune to criticism for things completely unrelated? It would be a problem if someone dragged in their Jewishness as part of the criticism, but as far as I can see, nobody did.
- siphor 8y agoit's mentioned in the article
- AnimalMuppet 8y agoAh, I missed that. So it is. (I did actually read the article, but evidently not well enough).
- forgotmyhnacc 8y agoIt's in the article, 5th paragraph. It would be nice to know why my original post was downvoted, did people assume I was racist? I referenced a sentence in the article and stated a fact about Facebook that contradicts what was said.
- AnimalMuppet 8y agoFor me, it went like this: I read the article, missed the reference to the Jews, thought it was a racist comment, made my reply, downvoted your comment, and flagged your comment. Then I saw siphor's reply to me, went back to the article, found the reference to Jews (control-F works better than I do, apparently), un-downvoted your comment, and un-flagged it. And I admitted my mistake in a reply to siphor, and I admit it to you as well.
- nutjob2 8y agoRepublican Jews back Trump who backs anti-semites. Ethnicity or identity seems to be less important than the pursuits of power and profit, it would seem.
- shripadk 8y agoTrump moved the US Embassy to Jerusalem and recognized Jerusalem as capital of Israel. His actions do not show him being an anti-semite. After all his son-in-law is himself a Jew and from what I hear wields a lot of power in the White House.
- forgotmyhnacc 8y agoOkay, but even if that were true, both Mark and Sheryl are Democrats. You can see a picture of Sheryl with Hilary Clinton on her profile page, posted before the election.
