Universal healthcare is not a silver bullet, in certain Eastern European Countries we pay a large amount of our salary in taxes so that we have universal healthcare and yet you still have to give "gifts" to every nurse and doctor that treats you unless you want the bare minimum treatment and care. Doctors can also intentionally botch surgeries if you fail to pay up. Not so much that it can be called malpraxis though.
- delinka 8y agoHow can a surgery be "botched" but not be malpractice?
- shawabawa3 8y agoSimple, there were "complications" caused by "x, y, z". which is all totally legit, except it's all made up and unverified due to rampant corruption
- Daishiman 8y agoAnd you think private health care is going to make that better? That's not an argument against public health care.
- dagenleg 8y agoWhy countries specifically?
- grey-sunshine 8y agoHappens in India too in the public sector.
- js2 8y agoObviously corruption can undermine any system. I assume in those countries the corruption extends to areas other than healthcare as well.
- fulafel 8y agoHow big are the bribes compared to co-pays or ER bills in the US?
- grey-sunshine 8y agoGiving bribes is the best solution now. How would you tackle lack of doctors, facilities, docs not giving a fuck about you etc?
- freeone3000 8y agoWe've managed to exactly formalize this system, and yet somehow it's viewed as less bad because it's an industry. America has managed to legitimize corruption.
