Adding heme is a brilliant idea - and I think high amounts of iron would make it a great product. There are a few things that are important to watch to make sure you get enough of when you're a vegetarian, and iron is one of them. (Women who donate blood have their blood tested for iron, and are sometimes surprised the learn that they're low in iron.)
- amelius 10y agoAlso don't forget retinol. A lot of people cannot convert carotenoids into retinol, so they have to get it from animal sources or from supplements.

- tim333 10y agoGlancing at that I'm guessing it's just that people who pig out on steaks and burgers tend to get more heart attacks and it correlates with iron consumption.
- nradov 10y agoNo there's more to it than diet. Similar findings have been found in multiple studies. There is evidence to indicate that this is why pre-menopausal women have a lower risk of heart disease than men and post-menopausal women (after controlling for other differences).
