And you’ll also find that in the past 20 years the link between money supply and inflation hasn’t followed the orthodox model and the macroeconomics textbooks have come under question by mainstream economists. That said, it’s clear there wa

You don’t need to accept the premise. It’s not (generally) the case that Japanese people don’t want foreigners there. A more correct statement would be that some Japanese people don’t want some foreigners there. Which is true of any country

Yep that’s all great but the key to being good at journalism is being a good journalist. Take Matt Levine. His background as an M&A attorney and investment banker clearly informs his journalism and makes it better. But no one would give

I don’t think this is as true as you make out. For the vast majority of people (who are born, live and die all in the same country/language community) should it really be their #1 priority to learn English? For example, a street food v

Not all ESLs have it equal, both due to differences in standardised education, and how close your primary language is to English. For example, a Japanese person probably would find learning English to the level required to publish academic

Glad you found your place. High school wasn’t quite as bad for me but I was constantly sick and battled migraines that stopped as soon as I left. Now I work hard, work long hours, but I’m happy and feel healthy and strong. It’s very diffe

This is fantastic, well done. So far it seems much better than anything out there for assisted reading, I can definitely see myself using it every day! I’d mostly ignore the feedback about the subscription. Yeah, having a new subscription f

I have a philosophy degree (and a good career in a different field). It’s a good thing I didn’t wish to teach it, otherwise modern academia being what it is, that would be a life of serfdom!

I agree. Yes, it’s a “framework” but it easily outputs static sites that work fine without JS enabled, you don’t need to know any Svelte to use it (but it’s there if you want it), Tailwind works out of the box, and deploying it to eg Netlif

Yeah totally, I said one said “one reason”. :) I lived in Brazil for a while, and definitely saw that gangs can get plenty big and plenty violent with plenty of guns even just catering to the domestic drug market and without easy gun import

I think this is incomplete on a number of levels. For a start, to be interesting, “truth” has to be something than just whatever your eyes can see. There have been wars (culture, economic, kinetic, etc) fought to define something as a truth

Many, many subreddits held polls before deciding what to do. I know that kind of online poll is not scientific, or whatever but do you have a better idea? Not going on strike is also a moral stand that should get consent from the user base.

I don’t think people who say meat is a problem for climate change are ignoring the utility of meat. They’re just pointing out that meat is a problem for climate change. Which it is, regardless of utility.
