Are you sure there was absolutely no attempt at doing a proper investigation? I wasn’t super fixed on the news at the time, but I do remember a number of reports, fact finding trips, etc by international and governmental bodies trying to in

Of course an online community can be moderated by volunteers. Many are. But this one isn’t. Many people learn that HN runs on a single dedicated server and figure it costs ~$1000/month in operational costs. But my point was just that t

Pretty good. I wouldn’t buy clothes from there by choice regularly but it’s definitely not disposable level quality. Maybe about on par with Uniqlo for basics?

There are two full time moderators, who, as I understand it, have professional backgrounds and are paid accordingly. And I’d say HN was exceedingly lucky find these excellent moderators. Not sure you could replicate that success no matter h

Is that what the author is implying? That certainly wasn’t my takeaway. If that was the author’s intended message, I’d certainly agree it’s not a good one. But I doubt that was the intended message, to be honest. One population being more s

The article says there “certain categories of internet users who may be more significantly impacted by this”. I think that’s probably true. And regardless of whether or not everyone is impacted at some level, I think it’s reasonable to poin

I don’t understand. This seems pretty innocuous to me. >“If you’re an average internet user, you may not think too much about your privacy when you visit a random website” Surely you don’t dispute that? Like, maybe the average user shou

Ah, I think we might be talking about different things when we talk about capitalism. I’m using the word to describe an economic system where the means of production are controlled by private capital (ie: capitalists). In such a system, cap
