Most consumer mesh systems do not support those 5ghz channels that mandate DFS. I can’t think of one that does support them, although numerous non-mesh systems do support them. If your router(s) do support those channels, they can be quite

I believe they’re saying that the Medallion fund which RenTech runs is an insider trading scheme, probably due to the incredible rate of return over decades. And that for RenTech to agree to this penalty implies they have a ton of money sit

While I had no success in guessing the movie from the image, I had more success in themes - choosing the images I found the most attractive and discovering to my surprise that they strongly tended to be for movies I liked the most.

I’ve had the opposite in my social circle. People generally try to be reasonable and so that suggestion is extremely rarely made. When received, it tends to be positively received as a time to self reflect and evaluate. That said, the wordi

Drive through Canada into Alaska. The Yukon was a bit prickly on getting your read end in and out of province within 24 hours due to covid, but that’s easily doable. Don’t know if that policy is still in effect. Once in Alaska, there’s plen

Wouldn’t it be fair to consider a causally disconnected (relative to us) place to be another universe, at least in layman terms? After all, it is expected in a couple trillion years that nothing outside the local group will be observable. W

Lots of slowly accumulated, deliberate practice here and there over many years. monkeytype.com is probably the best site for typing right now. And I just destroyed so many of bits of anonymity haha.

Lots and lots of practice during moments of downtime. Those small moments add up over the years. Back when I got my first Mac (2012) I was plateaued at 80-100 wpm. From there, it was an accumulation of intentional practice for fun and enjoy

Fresh is "fresh but with IntelliJ and a large project open", but without all the background NGINX etc installed. Once one app starts lagging, they all lag. Terminal, TextEdit, Safari, Notes, IntelliJ, everything. I'm well nor

I am quite a bit above 90 wpm. Almost exactly double for sustained (1 min+), and more than that for burst. My theory is that the Intel macs generate too much heat for the chassis to handle (I'm currently on a 16" 2019), especially

This is why I either buy Applecare or equivalent (depending on product) if it's mission critical, or buy using a card that extends the warranty by at least one year, such as the Chase Sapphire cards.

The M1 Macs I tried at the store are the first ones where I'm not sure if there is a lag or not. I'm planning on upgrading once the M-series Macs have at least 32gb of ram, so I'll see at that point.

I have a gripe with every Macbook Pro I've owned, and I've owned 4 of them over the last 10 years. They all lag when I type. I hit a key, and it takes a while before it shows up on screen. The effect is at its worst in Safari, but

The max UV index in Toronto tomorrow is a 6. On a sufficiently overcast day, that may become a 3, maybe even lower. That would have a very significant effect on odds of sunburn. Equally overcast on a high UV day in Bangkok on the other hand

Clouds do tend to diminish UV, but not significantly so as to make you UV-invulnerable. In the UV tracking app I use, the largest cloud-effects I’ve seen are in the range of 1-3 points decrease. So, UV index of 5-7 instead of 8. Depending o

Speaking of UV-A, I’m not a conspiracy theorist on this, but it reminded me that a common retort I’ve read given to “RF, routers, etc cause cancer” theories is that those are non-ionizing radiation and therefore are safe. Yet, UV-A is non-i

So, the initial job will get done, but please don’t look under the covers, and please do not attack it with anything infectious? Might be better than having nothing, in the case of ICUs being overwhelmed and overcapacitied.

Hmm, the conclusion that "mitochondrial ferredoxin is required for assembly of cytosolic iron sulfur proteins" does seem to hold up though. Unless I'm mistaken.
