Quite interesting post. I feel that a lot of the numerical Pythonistas are in the same spot: They tolerate most languages, but find R's syntax a bit unnatural, Matlab lacking when trying to go beyond pure matrix stuff, and are waiting

It depends how often you get the pager, no? If your calls were often at 4am and you had to work a normal schedule, it certainly does no good. Also, you are saying that nearly broke you, as if it's a badge of pride or something good..

What would be the equivalent for cellphone use? Because the biggest threat for me while biking is not drunk drivers but those texting and fiddling with their phones.

Same here but in the US. I can actually spot them as they drive like faux drunk drivers. Driving at weird speeds, swerving a bit, etc. and then when they get close enough, "yep, just texting!". I hope in 10 years people using thei

The only reason the Euro had any credibility was fue to Germany and the other conservative/prudent countries. A pigs euro would fail instantly.

Well we can do inception and go one level deeper: Most of the banks that loaned the money were akin to Credit Unions or similar. EG: La Caixa in Spain, the Landesbanks in Germany [1], etc. So they had to give in to the banks, because one

The low Euro has not been courtesy of the Greeks. They are a tiny fraction of the Eurozone, with the population of Georgia and the GDP of Louisiana. And yes, it is ideological. Multiple Greek governments cheated their way into the Euro and

At this stage there is no market involved. Almost all Greek debt is from other EU governments, and in several cases the governments raised the bailout money with extraordinary taxes (Portugal comes to mind) so voters are well aware that it&

True, but on the Greek case a lot of that money was used in transfers to voters to prop up their income (pensions, early retirement, unemployment benefits, etc.) In a way, most of the austerity discussion is a red herring. The key problem i

True. But there is a large overlap between those that do care and those that create content, vote, comment, and are mods. Thus, you are alienating exactly the class of users that you don't want to.

Your comment was the most informative and yet it's the second least upvoted. Syntax files are those things that get really annoying if buggy and are really easy to fix (compared to adding features to the C++ codebase). The fact that th
