I think you raise an excellent point, that many don't really think about. Detection is hard, and research on microbes is hard if you can't grow them in-vitro. There is research in this space. A few years ago, I had a lecture from

You could definitely achieve something like that with a solderless breadboard, and a raspberry pi with some breakout boards! Maybe an external USB or HDMI display? I wonder if you could use something like this [0] and feed info from the pi

Weird - I've never had a problem understanding Ton (in fact he's one of the more entertaining conference speakers I've heard). Maybe I've just listened to too many FOSS talks with Dutch devs :P

Thailand has successfully put a lot of effort in exporting cuisine. It's no wonder that Pad Thai and other Thai cuisine is ubiquitous in many countries, with the Thai government putting so much effort into 'gastrodiplomacy' [

As somebody who has (and continues to) partook in their fair share of "guerilla" gardening, and who has seen many parts of their local ecosystems decimated by invasive species, I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment. However,

I wonder, could you describe your use-case a little more? I'm curious why you couldn't write a stored procedure, then call that from your application? If you need to see if your function exists, you can do something like this [0].

Cool site, however it appears it has already been taken over by people posting very unsavory content. Content of the sort I would never want to see, let alone come across from a single click on the HN front page. Flagged, but best of luck

Qubes OS is excellent for things like that, but not really something most people are willing to use. I love Qubes OS; especially being able to have a disposable Windows 7 template VM I can game with that has a PCI passthrough for my spare g

Yeah, nobody has the right to diagnose anybody with "having mental issues", and if the author knows more about Stallman personally, it isn't his place to bring that up here, IMO. Also, "poorly socialized because nobody t

The New York Times does the same thing now, too. A scary dark pattern. I wish Incognito mode was less detectable, though I’m not exactly sure how that would work.

Personally, I'm fine having several remotes, but I realize that most people would prefer not to. My setup is a stereo receiver plugged into the display's stereo out. A Linux desktop, RPI4 (for Kodi), and a PS2 (via a component->

I bought a modern 4K “tv” [0] (actually a monitor) recently without any sort of “smart tv” features. There are a few options out there in the high end monitors or, even cheaper, the “Corporate display panel” genre. I was appalled at how har
