Signed types are the sane ones and give you error checking possibilities (negative size doesn't make sense; huge positive size may be right or an error). Unsigned types break trivial math like x < y => x-1 < y-1.

I dislike the abundance of color schemes with low saturation. This lower contrast, and I can imagine I'd have to turn up screen backlight to the max if I used it in sunlight. I tried to use colleague's android and I found it unint

Related to your project: At my university, we learned basics of assembler programming in an IDE made by one of the professors. It was written in Xaw/Athena widget se. Now I see somebody has ported it to javascript: http://iv

Why? I've put up a simple renderer (meshes + instances [transformation+material] + camera + default light behind the camera] in ~450 lines of C++ code (+ 50-ish lines of GLSL).

Semi-rigid, informally specified output meant for easy inspection by humans. The output of `ifconfig -a` for example. (That's the worst offender, most other commands have a better-formatted output.) As a general rule of thumb: if you h

How about: if your message doesn't fit into a single sentence, the commit is too big. Split it. If it's a huge architectural change merged from another branch, describe it in a separate document referenced in the message.

No word about debugging. How are they going to port, say, gdb? Are they going to implement ptrace, although it doesn't conform to any standard? If so, it also raises the question of WHICH flavor of ptrace? Also, POSIX has a number of o

Cool post. I have always disliked C++ MP because I couldn't see the forest for the trees. Judging by the first few examples (using, mp_rename) C++11 cleans it up and makes it understandable.

It seems they're benchmarking on toy programs to create media hype. In my previous job I found out two non-removable bottlenecks in C++ builds: 1) linking (I don't know of any parallel linker), 2) IO (writing of debug information)

Unsigned numbers in C++ are completely unsuitable for restricting the domain range because their "rank" (technical term) is higher than that of equally-sized signed types, which means that all operands are promoted to unsigned if

Is there any production-level C code which relies on (int+bool, and other semantically meaningless arithmetic) working? Besides, C++ broke nevertheless broke C compatibility because ++bool will never increment the value past 1, and bool=int

Well, "defect by design" is still a defect and I have to work around it on almost daily basis. Besides, being able to do (bool+int) could not come from C since C didn't have bool at the time. EDIT: actually, there are two def
