Limiting other diseases is relevant as well though, as the goal is to not overload hospitals during a pandemic. (+ just getting a cold is really annoying since I would need to quarantine more than I would with a cold before covid)

Maybe serve as a physical reminder for your friends that you are still part of the class to make it easier when you then get back? I think I agree with this being over-hyped, but trying to look for reasons it might be a good idea.

Signal is registered as a 501c3 nonprofit, there should be challenges to buy that. Granted, I have not investigated if someone else holds a trademark or so that maybe still allows for something to be sold. Signal not only encrypts messages

I used appear.in a few years ago between friends, it was really nice. Now however, having to pay $60 when you are 12+ people is a bit much when I can do it for free with Zoom. If it was for professional use $60 would not have mattered much,

I thought the LED is now connected to the camera by hardware? You cannot disable it by firmware while the camera is on.
