wow, it looks like "dual process" theory is basically the same thing. I don't know if there's a better text on dual-process theory out there (perhaps by the original authors), but regardless of who originated it, I think

Yeah I wouldn't read too much into any single study. But what I would defend vigorously is System1 / System2 distinction as something so clear/fundamental that you can see it constantly once you understand it.

This is a garbage article, wtf am I reading. Is it saying that irrespective of your current age, your birth year can predict an 8% variation in the mass of your brain (with no effect on skull size)? Or is it saying that older people have le

I'd love to hear exactly what this security threat is. The only scenario I can envision is tracking a chinese national in America and trying to abduct them back to china, or perhaps blackmailing a US government official by proving thei

Yeah I'll even go a step further. Sometimes I feel it's actively psychologically harmful for a nonstop treadmill of very remote prescribed drama to piped into every citizen's head (election/israel/ukraine/etc).

It looks like a "wide-event" is just a structured log, you can send any log containing json to sumo/splunk at it'll parse it out as fields for you. So as I'm understanding it you're advocating for structured lo

This person is simply misinformed. I worked at meta and used scuba, and it's like 6/10 (which makes it one of meta's best tools). A tool like splunk can do everything scuba can do and a million things it can't. Sumologic

Car buying algorithm 1. Looks up nice new car 2. Realize a fancy new car is like $2-3k per MONTH (financing, insurance, etc). 3. Decide that there are about a million better ways to spend 2,000 a month (e.g. a $200 dinner every 3rd day, per

It may turn out that it's cheaper and easier to just pull it out of the air than rebuild every single chemical reaction that produces CO2 (such as heating limestone in the creation of concrete).

Seems like a bit of a reductionistic bait/soundbite. Obviously the tech isn't there yet, but when we find a (fast) way turn CO2 back into gasoline that will both allow all existing technologies to go green and also give us a good

One interesting thing about this is that this what investors want you to make for them to invest in, not necessarily what you want to make. Investors are very happy with moonshots (1% chance of you succeeding, but 10,000x return if you do).

Maybe there's a math behind this. Maybe they enjoy talking about themselves, and don't like talking about you, so are happy to talk as long as its on their terms, but don't really have an interest in a balanced quid-pro-quo.
