Kotlin is a really good language. I really want it to be my primary language for android development. The only problem I have now is build times. It's about twice as slow to build a Kotlin app than Java app.

I'm now trying to use Buck build system with Kotlin. It looks like in the M12 kotlin-compiler.jar the annotation NotNull.class is embedded twice.

Right, the runtime speed of Kotlin is very good. But the build times got much slower. An average java build with Gradle takes ~30 seconds on my pretty old laptop, but with Kotlin it is about 1 minute. Daemon and parallel are enabled in glob

Do you use Kotlin with Gradle? I like Kotlin a lot, but it feels very slow on my laptop, do you know if there any special optimizations to make it faster?

Oh, finally I'm not alone here! I use vim/tmux and yesterday I discovered Buck and made a quick project generator: http://zserge.com/blog/buck-build-system.html

Finally my android builds are fast enough to not lose the focus waiting for the build to finish! Thank you, guys. I wonder if Buck supports Kotlin, or if not - how hard would it be to add it?

My first candidate for removal would be fragments. They don't help to componentize apps at all (at least not better than plain old viewgroups), but they can make life much harder with weird hidden bugs. There is brilliant article from

Almost correct. I never thought of this kind of syntax sugar initially. But technically (and people posted an issue about it) it's possible to generate functions like linearLayout() etc from android.jar for Anvil/Java. This will w

Oh, so Anko and Koan is the same project? Stupid me, I wondered what happened to Koan when I saw Anko first (and I didn't think of an anagram).

Let me try to answer it. I'm sure that I won't change your mind, but when I published Anvil (a similar library for Java) - I got lots of questions like yours. - XMLs are not type safe, I can type any tag name in there, and I can s

Thanks! Unfortunately neither of the data binding libraries for Android worked for me, because they are either too hard to extend or too big/complex. RoboBinding's idea is nice, but to me it's too implicit. It's really h

You might like Anvil: it's a declarative react-like UI library for Android. I personally use it a lot, and I normally write single-activity applications (e.g. I have my own backstack of views inside a single activity): https:/&#x

Plan9 utils usually have less options and smaller functionality, but you can easily compose them. "rc": I like it much more than sh for scripting. It's easier to learn and has less pitfalls. "cat" has no options at

It would be cool to have a "busybox" alternative targeted at Plan9 commands. I personally find Plan9 utils much more logical (and easier to implement!). Something like 9base from suckless, but as a single binary and hopefully in a

Totally agree with you! Kotlin is great replacement for Java on Android. I like to see that more and more interesting libraries appear for Kotlin, like Anko. I recently made Anvil compatible with Kotlin ( http://zserge.com/bl

Does anyone know when the HTTP/2 client for Go will be available? And, are they likely to include http/2 into a standard net/http package?

Oh, thanks for a prompt response! I personally got stuck with LuaRocks and cross-compilation for our MIPS board. Probably it was lack of documentation or lack of my knowledge. So instead I manually crafted most of the packages we needed eit

So, LuaRocks contains just 330 packages and doesn't look like the best package manager for Lua (and they also have a terrible website as for me). If a community here wants to make things better - let's meet somehow and discuss it.
