Wait so you have a separate HA for every room in your house? What benefit do you actually get from that? Edit upon further reflection: I’m doing something very similar. I have one bad mesh right now with lots of repeaters to transit my ridi

I end-run around the weird HA z-wave integration by using zwave2mqtt running on a pi with my HA running in a VM on a server in my homelab. I haven’t had nearly as many issues after I switched to this setup and it it running.

Very early on we switched from an audio monitor to a video monitor specifically so we could answer this question without panicked running across the house. It’s really hard to generalize what an alarm cry could mean. In my experience they w

I recently picked up a Canon PIXMA IP8720 which isn't quite as fancy as the P900 but still pretty fancy as these things go. It prints amazing photos.

Not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if life and disability insurance through the tunnel workers union is extraordinarily expensive.

That's really interesting. It seems like in my area their system stays up and running but that's probably because lots of people have their home phone service running through Comcast.

I set up my standing desk with my monitor (a 33lb 43” monster from LG) on a separate rolling tv stand. My desk is a small hand cranked standing desk from Amazon. It’s far from perfect but it works for now. My next setup will have motor legs

I mis-worded the question, I think. Here's an example of the problem: On Friday I sent an email to my kid's principal asking about COVID-related things. I cc'd my spouse. When the principal replied they pressed "reply&qu

I have the opposite problem. I _want_ people to reply-all when I have put someone on cc.

That's probably the best solution to this problem. I didn't realize that that was a possibility. And actually it doesn't even have to be that complicated. I already have wildcard forwarding set up on one of our domains to sen

The current shape of the internet itself (BGP peering among autonomous systems, a decent number of large tier 1 ISPs, etc) is, on its face, a relatively successful federation. The applications running atop that federation are, as you say, c

My company pays a good chunk for startup expenses for remotes but so far we haven’t convinced them to pick up the tab for internet.

Same. I get trapped in these often and for large ones I've felt like I've needed to make drastic life changes like quit jobs or move to escape them. It's good to know that I'm not the only one that feels these things.

If I were writing an API in Ruby today I would define my output types as Sorbet structs and call `serialize.to_json` on them at render time. I haven't benchmarked it against anything but it seems reasonably fast.

Is DynamoDB baked into the product or could new adapters be written to use different key/value stores? Things like leveldb for local-only ledgers or even an adapter on top of PostgreSQL's jsonb field might be useful.
