This is not about finding the most effective solution, it’s about showing that they “understand” the problem. Could they write the algorithm if it were not in their training set?

I love it. It feels great to have a search engine built for users, not advertisers or investors. Trivial stuff like being able to remove some domains from search results. Or not having to wade through AI bullshit to get to the results. Or,

My only regret is the game is not designed for the player still roaming the world and finishing various quests after the main story ends, like in the various Marios. If you want to keep playing, you have to keep Ganon alive and get the regu

Higher income does not equal higher quality of life. Which is, arguably, what really matters to people.

The author addresses this in the text: > There are also false prophets—we all want quick solutions, and sometimes we get (too) excited about people who promise them. For example, in Germany, some claim they have “made Microsoft’s cloud E

Nothing is bullet proof, bad things can happen on Fediverse too. My point is that the Fediverse is much healthier in this regard.

The issue is that “BlueSky” is, for most of its users, the centralized official app. If that gets bought and starts blocking or demoting content from “non-official” clients, switching to a third-party client will not help you since you woul

For me, the most meaningful test of decentralization is whether one player can decide what most of the users can see. And that is entirely the case with Bluesky. You can own your information alright, but what is it good for when the single

Not every european company embodies european values. As an example, Signal is listed as a US company people might want a european replacement for – and yet Signal represents european values much better than many of the alternatives.

But the users are not. The app and the AppView can be bought and then you are in control of what people can see. Good luck trying to move them to the alternative.

You can move your data, but whoever controls the AppView controls what people see “on Bluesky”.

I would be so much more interested in Bluesky if it were technically impossible for a random super rich guy to buy and bend it to his whims.

What class is US healthcare best in? It’s probably among the best in quality you can get as a rich individual, but as a system it’s deeply flawed in many factors. US doesn’t even make it into the list of best 50 countries by life expectan

As I understand it, the story is not the advertising network getting the private data — we have all known that for a long time. The news is that even the unsuccessful real-time auction bidders can get a lot of this data.

It isn't some kind of cynical surveillance play. The overwhelming experience of the contemporary internet says it always is.

Yes! Instead of data-driven management, I believe in conversation-driven management. Frameworks such as OKRs are a way to spark helpful conversations.

The complexity fatigue is something that I can certainly relate to. Things like caching, request deduplication and incremental static regeneration across multiple pages can easily lead to site that’s harder to reason about than I would like

But sorting issues according to their rough size is precisely what makes at least basic sense. A scale of trivial (can make many of those in a day), simple (several of those a day), medium (roughly a day of work) or large (days) makes it po
