I’m Czech, 33, have lived here all my life. The quality of life certainly isn’t far behind nearby countries. It’s comparable – better in some regards, worse in others. The differences between regions are much bigger than the differences bet

You can’t simply pick a syntax. You have to choose something that plays well with older CSS parsers.

The sequence is a shortcut accepted by the vast majority of regular calculators for most of operations. It simply takes the second operand to be the same as the first and repeated pressing of the = key repeats the operation ad infinitum. Ie

Isn’t it obvious why a director would be pissed off by his script getting public before the movie is released? Now why act like a jerk and help spreading the script? This doesn’t have to be a philosophical debate, it’s just common courtesy.

Exactly. It’s a long time since I have seen Solaris, but I remember it as a film about human deficiencies, and especially the feeling of guilt, greatly amplified by the encounter with some “superior consciousness”. For me that’s a very inte

It’s a highly cryptic way to find the maximum of the two. The first part creates an array (=> is just a syntactic sugar for a comma here) and the second part takes the 0th or 1st item from this array, <= being just regular numeric com

It’s a bummer to find my e-mail between the leaked Adobe accounts. Especially after the ordeal I had to go through to have my Adobe account “deleted” months ago: You have requested that we deactivate your Adobe account. We have sent a requ

Please don’t generalize my arguments to scientific method as such, I am just talking about economy. A real-world economy is a wildly nonlinear system, a bit like the weather. And there’s always something important you may fail to take into

As I understand it, the recent economic turmoils in various parts of the world seem to have shed a new light on the mathematical modelling of real economies. While the models might be a good discussion tool, forcing the parties to explicitl

Agreed. But would those “five hours of work” be enough for the whole economy to stay afloat and pay the basic income?

I think the whole discussion boils down to this: An additional cost is the incentive or disincentive for engaging in productive work created by the Basic Income. On the one hand, the BI creates disincentives for recipients to engage in pro

While this is true, the problem is that the sweet spot for Core Data is quite small. Given the framework description, it’s quite easy to go with Core Data when some of its many drawbacks mean you really shouldn’t.

I think that Objective-C would qualify as a reasonably high-level language and offers a choice between manual and automatic, but very predictable memory management.

That guy just argues that people should eat less junk food. The basic point is the same: if you want to be thin, excercise and eat properly.

Not that it’s his case, but $12k/year is quite a reasonable amount of money in a lot of parts of the world. As an example, here in the Czech Republic you can live a decent life for that amount with all the usual comforts.
