It never really materialized because of a chicken/egg problem between API's and clients/tooling. And OpenAPI/Swagger also filled some of the space. Imagine if tools like Postman/Paw/browser-devtools supported H

Kotlin started out as a better Java but it's more than that now. With Kotlin multiplatform you can compile to JVM, Javascript and Native from the same repository. Java has been catching up on language features but I'm not sure if

Any examples of trivial things you've struggled with? My Spring Boot experience is the opposite and it is usually my go-to framework when I need to get a backend up and running fast. It takes 30-50 lines of Kotlin to serve some JSON en

In a time before Rails and Django and way before Nodejs there were not that many programming languages available to do big backend or web projects. Java and C++ were the obvious choices as those languages were available, being thought in sc

Is there a specific reason you want it bundled into the JDK? OpenJFX can be pulled in as a regular library.

I only have some experience with JLine (Java) and Termion (Rust). Heard great things about Textual (Python). There are also smaller libraries focusing on just one aspect like coloring. For example the Colorize Ruby gem.

Ncurses and friends could be overkill but there is still value in small wrapper libraries that provide a higher level API on top of escape codes. `setCursor(lines, 0)` is more readable than `write(f"\033[{lines};0f")`

It's good to know the underlying low-level terminal commands that make this work like this article explains. But I guess most people will use a terminal abstraction library that has a higher level API to move the cursor, clean the scre

This is the approach I'm also looking at. GTD systems are good at storing and keeping track of times and due dates. But the planning/execution step is missing besides basic "work on the highest priority task for each project.

To me learning music is very similar to learning programming concepts. In the beginning it can all be very abstract and you don't immediately see how new concepts fit into the bigger picture. Until at one point along the way it suddenl

I'm in this boat with the product I'm currently hacking on but I just can't seem to commit to an architecture I'm happy with. Mostly due to what you mentioned here. Essentially I want to build an opensource/hackable

At a first glance this seems to be an api written in Java using Spring Boot in a reactive style with Webflux. The api wraps the official Java Kafka client and some other libraries. The frontend is a React app in Typescript.

Mosquitto is C/C++ without any crazy dependencies so you should be able to do that. I don't immediately see why you would do this though? Any specific use cases? I haven't done this myself yet but I've seen a couple of p

When implementing something like this I indeed prefer to share as much code as possible between client/server. My daily environment is mostly JVM-based (desktop/android/server) so your project is probably not a great fit for

I had similar thoughts. The app looks really good and interesting but mac-only is a non-starter for me as I can only use it on a small subset of my devices. That being said, congrats to OP for launching. The execution seems to be great with

The emulator is part of the android SDK so you don't need to install the full IDE if all you need is the emulator. You can just install the Android SDK standalone and use that to install additional images and start/stop devices.

There is not much ruby magic in that code. This is just a naive use of data from another module. Somewhere in the Gitlab code base there is a MIME_TYPES map with common extensions as the map key. No idea what it is used for but that module
