yeah absolutely. As it stands, it's a dilemma. The Vision Pro is $3500 and still only does half of what I want a headset for. The only saving grace is the Vision Pro is so expensive, I can pick up a Quest for only $500 and it will do t

it's a huge adoption barrier though The problem is the best apps attach all sorts of weird things to weird buttons. I've given plenty of novices a try of a headset and it's a train wreck with them accidentally pushing buttons

yes ... but they "can't wait". If they want it that badly then such a tiny cost would be easily tolerable to get it earlier. Quest 3 pass through is awesome by all counts from the people who have tried it.

Wow that's a really prophetic take on things - I've mostly written off Palmer Lucky these days but he was bang on the money there. It's interesting though how counter it runs to John Carmack's philosophy where mass marke

If you really can't wait, just go out and buy a Quest for 1/7th the price and start doing it today. It's a rounding error on what you will pay for Vision Pro and you can get an idea early of what it will be like. (I probably

So far Meta has published a whole bunch of spatial APIs including scene detection, spatial anchors, plane detection etc. [0] They are far ahead of Apple in many of these respects, but what they haven't had is a device that made this at

I'm really interested to see how high level the support is for "spatial computing" is in the APIs they are offering. This whole thread is full of people wildly speculating about applications which, without amazing platform le

I suspect there's going to be a whole new class of disadvantaged / second class citizens in the future who belong to the minority that can't tolerate wearing these type of devices. Having said that, I haven't met that ma

Supposedly the entire world's production capacity of the micro LEDs Apple is using is about 350k. They are really hard to make.

Actually particularly shocking that they've sold Google Domains to SquareSpace. I couldn't think of a less aligned company. They deal with novice end users who want to make web sites with minimum technical knowledge but give them

it'll be interesting to see if at that point, federation starts to become the way of scaling or not. If it was seamless, it wouldn't matter where you signed up and they could just host multiple lemmy instances on different servers

Very surprising indeed. I suppose one can look not just at the absolute numbers right now (or whenever those stats are from) but at the gradient and extrapolate forward. If they can sustain anything like that rate of signups for even a week

The number that matters isn't really what dents Reddit, but what gives Lemmy (or the fediverse as a whole) the critical mass to actually become viable. 27k isn't yet there. If I had to guess, I'd say maybe 200k is where you n

They might just be counting their instance. These things get way more complicated to figure out in a federated world (which is actually good in some respects). There are at least half a dozen instances where people are going to. EDIT: someo
