FWIW I generally have had excellent customer service experiences with Stripe. Often receiving responses within an hour after sending them at 2 am. In fact, once an employee out of the blue sent me a mockup showing me how I might use a whole

What's an approximate range of $ raised/valuation that makes for a Black Swan seed round in your opinion? It's hard for me to understand what the implications are of this besides "don't believe the hype" witho

Yeah I agree. The FAQ page is a huge win. All of the content is super useful and I only ever found it before from pecking around.

In Waterloo I think it's possible with a seed fund that puts in 100-150k at 2 to 3M valuations before the good ones get picked up by YC. A lot of Canadians move down to the states anyway because developer salaries are like 2-3x higher.

They very well could be. But more likely, the people that would meet there could go on to do great things together and perhaps YC would be a part of that. I met my cofounder at the TC Disrupt Hackathon in 2011, were selected as one of the w

I once met LeVar at a bar at a restaurant. As a fan of Star Trek, I wanted to go up to him, but figured he must get bothered by a lot of intense trekkies so I broke the ice with a conversation about Reading Rainbow. He talked about Reading

If YC becomes Stanford 2.0, Quora seems like an interesting software collaboration system for all of it's "students." I see the potential especially since Facebook started out just with "students" too.

An order of magnitude difference the top 5 exists in 5 years vs the top exit of this year isn't a pissing match -- it's complete domination.

I wasn't trying to compare WhatsApp to Tumblr, I was trying to compare one exit this year vs the top exists from an entire ecosystem over the past 5 years. I think New York is great, and I think Tumblr is great, but I think if Tumblr w

By nailed down, I meant "done right" and functioning smoothly -- not nailed down as in impossible to duplicate else where. For example there is nothing very early stage in New York that wields the respect and track record of YComb

I don't think anyone questioned if it was becoming more viable, but if you are concerned with macro figures I think this one is much more telling: SV: Largest exit so far 2014: WhatsApp: 19B NY: Top 5 exits since 2009: Tumblr: 1.1B Ind

17K for 7% isn't as raw a deal as you think when you realize that at an "acceptance" into YC essentially doubles your valuation to most seed investors.
