At least AI provides actual value immediately - you can generate cool pictures right now. You don't have to HODL something and hope that you will be able to sell it to a greater fool.

Current VRAM prices are like that, because of Nvidias greed. I assembled one of my previous gaming PCs 10 years ago and installing 32 GB of RAM wasn't a problem back then. But you can't even buy a consumer GPU with 32 GB of VRAM.

Yes, and you can also create an alt account to post in subreddits that banned you. If I have to create a separate account for each server anyway then what's the point of the fediverse?

On reddit you can get banned from a bunch of subs, just because you post in a sub that their mods don't like. It's apparently against the reddit's rules, but nobody seems to give a shit. It'even easier to do that in the

Countries like Sweden or Singapore have different histories than the USA, but their drug laws are even harsher than those in the USA. Also straw purchasing a legal substance is much easier than finding a dealer of an illegal one.

I guess it's possible if you're in the right social circles. But as I said - this creates friction. Now you have to look for shady people or go to shady darknet markets, telegram groups, etc. And in many jurisdictions even purchas

It's much harder to start using drugs if they are illegal. I, for example, have no idea where to buy heroin in my city. But buying alcohol and cigarettes is not a problem - just go to the nearest grocery store. Illegality creates lots

It doesn't. For example - all mastodon's "private" messages are unencrypted and server owners can read them.

For a small group like a family or a couple of friends it's simply easier to use apps like Discord, WhatsApp or Signal. But if you need something bigger then you can't avoid the problems that I mentioned. My country's gamedev

If you fly to Japan from Finland then you have to fly over the North Pole, because the Russian airspace is closed. Seems to be a lot more dangerous than the Himalayas.

Imagine if each subreddit was a separate forum with a separate account. People are lazy and want everything in the same place. Also it's not 1998 any more. Running a forum is a full time job. Need to handle DMCA takedowns, deal with il

We've had that capability for at least 3 decades and nothing completely new has appeared since then. Something completely new like rock, metal or edm. You could not have made those during the 30s - the necessary technology hadn't

I'm not saying that music is worse. I'm saying that we have reached the "end of history" and there will be no more new radical changes like when genres like rock, metal and edm appeared.

In the 1950s there was no metal, chiptunes, EDM and other stuff like that. We had all that by the 80s and 90s. But what can we make now that we could not have made 20-30 years ago? Seems like that we've reached "the end of history
