I use borg backup running via cron multiple passes per day. When needed you can mount any backup as a file system for easy restoration. Yes, short-lived files can't be recovered, but that's something I am willing to live with.

I use a cryfs mount stored in Dropbox. It's been quite painless.

Yes, you'd have to automate the pull for this to work, and then you'd have a way to notify on conflicts so that they are resolved ASAP. Come to think of it, Dropbox isn't really so great at the notification aspect of this eit

This behavior is not confined to Apple TV. Isn't it the same on every client? Roku and the web interface are both guilty as well. It's so obnoxious that I would consider paying extra to 1) shut this off, and 2) have a sane impleme

That sounds like a lot of work for something that a browser should provide an easy, up-front way to configure.

I use something like this but I initialize the file with the contents of the clipboard. I use xclip but I think xsel can do the same. Here's a snippet: xclip -o > "$tmpfile" # initialize file with clipboard conten

Yes, as dated as it looks now, it was the first unix desktop that felt 'polished' to me up to that point. It's also the first desktop I had that was in colour though, so maybe that's part of it.

I don't know but it seems to break Vimium-FF navigation. None of the keyboard mappings work.

Not sure if you are aware of this but the bind-key here sets it up so that pressing ` twice sends the backtick through: set-option -g prefix ` bind-key ` send-prefix I don't find it's too much of a pain to press twice

Yes. You might look into setting up shellcheck ( https://www.shellcheck.net/ ) as a linter for your editor - it'll help break your habit pretty quickly.

With tmux being more client/server based, it's more scriptable. You can run tmux commands inside or outside of tmux session which is really useful - for example you can use send-keys to perform actions within a session. You can pr

Interesting choice. I've been using ` (backtick) for command key, which has the advantage of not requiring a control key input. I just realized though that I don't have a mapping for last-window. And there doesn't seem to be

Yes, getting the key mappings to your liking is key. There are lots of resources available. One good place to start is the online book The Tao of tmux https://leanpub.com/the-tao-of-tmux/read . Using copy mode to naviga

I actually went a little bit down the nvim route as well, since it has nice built-in shell support. What I think you're missing with just nvim is the tmux scripting capabilities and of course the session management. It's pretty ea

I've been a long-time user of terminator on linux. I started playing around with tilix a couple of months ago, and really liked it. Interestingly though, what I finally realized is there is a huge amount of value in ditching both and s

I use jrnl http://jrnl.sh/ , which is an excellent command-line app for time-based capture. It also supports tagging and has a really useful query mechanism.

It's easy to forget that most of the Velvet Underground stuff was done in the 60's. So radically different from what was going on at the time. And so influential on what came after. From the article - I'd love to see this stu

One issue I have with pass is that it leaks meta-data about what you have stored. The contents are encrypted, yes, but the filename identifying the content is sitting right there in the open.
