I came across [xcape]( https://github.com/alols/xcape ) this week. It is a great little utility which can map escape to another key like control or shift but only when pressed once. For example you can configure the cont

I store the private keyfile outside of Dropbox. To me it's a very acceptable tradeoff.

Certainly: https://github.com/EionRobb/skype4pidgin/tree/master/skypewe... I'm using it from arch, via the AUR package purple-skypeweb-git

I've been using the HTTP-based skype pidgin client. It seems to mostly work - the only show stopper is that file transfer requests fail silently. I had someone trying to send me a file. I had no idea. It was a little awkward.

As a counterpoint, I just set up git-annex and sync'd a couple of local servers plus a remote server, with no issues, by following along in the walkthrough. Granted, it's not exactly an out-of-the-box setup, like say, syncthing, b

I've thought of using hosts file vs. plugins but have never really made the switch. I'm a bit concerned that I'll run into cases like a website is broken due to a hosts file setting, and I can't easily bypass it like I c

That's the problem with android. The 'typical user' has no control over individual app permission - it's literally all or none. If you install the app you give it access to the GPS, as long as it has specified that permi

Something about the entire approach Google is taking with Lollipop (and Material Design) just seems off to me. I can see their philosophy but I don't agree with large parts of it (I don't need or want animations to guide me along

I don't think the solution is to ignore it though. Maybe it needs more calls to change the implementation and fix the core issue.

I usually visit these threads knowing that I will pick up something useful to add to the toolbox... thank you for 'envoy' - I think it will streamline my ssh key management.

Thanks, I didn't realize you could do this. I've already updated via tarball but maybe will try this next time. By the way this is documented in the FAQ: https://wiki.eclipse.org/FAQ_How_do_I_upgrade_Eclipse%3F

Okay... but you could always turn if off. I personally like having my 'status' things down there, things like gmail, lastpass, etc. I prefer to have the status items separated from the control-type items on top. I don't see w

Some questions from someone who likes the idea of a tiling window manager but doesn't quite see how it would work better than compositing. I'm coming at this from KDE. My top applications are: firefox, thunderbird, eclipse, sublim

Better yet use 'less +F'. It's as easy to remember as tail -f. The advantage of using less here is that you can easily interrupt the tailing (ctrl-c). For example, to search. Then just hit 'F' again to restart taili

Yes. IMO that list is core and shouldn't be hidden away. Maybe a good compromise would be to allow it to be expanded, and not block the underlying text when expanded. i.e. an option to tuck it off to the side an leave it in place.

To me it was the first real-life example of an interactive, desktop-like experience on the web (that wasn't some crappy flash app). It was a huge leap.

Can anyone comment on the 3G reception and the wifi reception? I've heard varying reports on problems in these areas, but it's difficult to tell if they are carrier-related for the 3G. Also, is the wifi any good? I found the reception on th

If it catches on, yes. Did you note the price? $185K for a domain name. I agree with you about the domain-name squatting - it's a real issue - but I don't see how this makes things any better.
