I've worked at two companies where the bonuses worked well, and both of them tied their bonuses to events: either getting code past a milestone, or sales of a product reachign a certain level (though this one was a little too delayed from t

Perhaps the idea is that the Google employees will suddenly feel compelled to get all their family and friends to use the social stuff, and they'll in turn bring in their friends, and that will be enough to tip it into mainstream usage

Before the internet, people were comfortable releasing small amounts of personal data - and so they still release small amounts of personal data (to a florist, into the garbage). One of the issues here is that a few of these pieces of data

This is a nice benefit of two companies competing asynchronously (each has a different core competency). The open source community gets the non-core competency of both. Now if only there was a company whose non-core competency was Google-st

I think the most crucial slide is #15: Growing through social. The integration of social pressures into the core game mechanic is a vital part (IMHO) of the growth of Zynga. If the Zynga games were stand-alone, their reach would be a tiny f

It looks nice. A couple of issues occur when using Opera 11 on Vista. The pieces are not centered on the square, they're about 5px up and left. And when pieces move they leave blue or green backing square artefacts for the next turn.

These examples might also be due to collaborative pressure. On Star Wars, Lucas worked with a great editor who could say no to him. Same for script on Empire. For the Star Wars films 1-3 Lucas had total control over everything.
