If anything is going to displace bash at this point it's going to be something that brings substantial benefits to the user. Stricter syntax is good but not of the immediate concern to the user typing his 2x-longer command. The next ev

Did you have a look at virginmobile's 10GBP/month for "unlimited" data ? Three is around 17GBP/month I believe.

On OSX there are a ton on Apple services phoning home for all sorts of reasons, all the time. Try installing Little Snitch some time and be amazed. And I wouldn't be surprised to see the same on the iOS devices. Any Apple device is sup

A bit OT but it would have been automatic if docker used a content-addressable filesystem to store the image content. Unfortunately `docker commit` is nothing like `git commit` as it creates a differential snapshot of the filesystem. It unf

Jupyter is great ! Did you know that Github renders the .ipynb files ? See https://github.com/SciRuby/sciruby-notebooks/blob/master/get... for example.

https://www.vultr.com/ is like DO except it allows arbitrary ISO and iPXE. No need to wait on DigitalOcean for them to provide your OS. They also have IPv6, private IPs and more locations. And it's a bit cheaper.

In either case some change to regulation seem to be necessary though. "can demonstrate some hardship from it" could be extended to the right to be forgotten.

It might be naive but wouldn't it be easier for the individuals to change their name ? It's like burned HN accounts, you don't keep the karma but a new account gives you a fresh start.

It would be nice if the protocol allowed extension points in the SUBSCRIBE action. Right now it's not possible to use dynamic authorization delegation using signatures.

Good point. Reality is more fine-grained than the account of my own perception. Do you know if contrib packages are also getting security updates ? If no then why didn't they just move the ffmpeg package there. To me it felt like the r

Michael is just amazing. I once had a bug with ffmpeg which he helped me pin down on IRC and then produced a patch for it immediately. I was disappointed of how aggressive the libav guys where during the fork. They changed the content of ff

Another point that hasn't been raised yet: Flash is a much smaller software than a browser, how come it has more bugs ? It certainly speaks for it's internal code quality.

mypkg-v1 depends on libsomething. mypkg-v2 doesn't depend on it anymore. Now you have machines with libsomething leftovers. Another issue with debian packages is that dpkg essentially removes the old package before installing the new o
