Take the JSON encoding example. How does it know that 802 is a number? What if I want to have "802" as a string? Is it because visitors.mozilla has a fixed schema that it's value is an int or does it try to parse the string a

I would like to make a claim that ETN doesn't reduce complexity of programs, it merely splits it in two: the TN that declares the data structure and the interpreter on the other side. To fully understand a piece of code one has now to

The roaming rules are a bit complicated. It seems that only a fraction of the data plan can be made available under "free roaming" rules. I suspect operators will make their money back from "I forgot to turn off roaming"

I am not a fan of `cast` (also seen in other languages as well) as it leads to reductionist thinking. There are usually more than one way to convert from one type to another. How is Float to Int rounded? Shouldn't String to Int return

Little rant on UUIDs: Notice how the author assumes UUID v4[1] in the conversation. There are very few reasons to use the other versions but we are still paying for their price in code complexity all the time. Look at this UUID parsing code

A couple of thoughts on security: How I understand this, when the /keybase VFS is mounted, all the files are accessible in clear from the user's point of view. It means that file traversal attacks (eg: browser) could potentially a

I agree that it's hard to predict the future, that's why I'm not trying to add unnecessary dependencies. 100 lines of code are not hard to rewrite in anything else if necessary.

Not when using AutoScaling Groups. Then the machine will be provisioned on boot and therefor ansible would have to be installed on the machine.

It's debatable. Ansible/Chef/Puppet themselves need to be bootstrapped as well. Bash is perfectly fine if the machine can be installed with less than 100 lines of code and immutable infrastructure is being used (so no need fo

I'm doing just that (for a SaaS). 1. Build an AMI with Packer that contains Ubuntu + Docker + aws-cli. 2. Build and publish docker images for all the services that will run on the instances. (one image per service, not per environment

When I develop in rails I tend to read the rails code a lot to understand what kind of implicit knowledge I was supposed to know. I suspect that veteran rails developers have done that a lot and also keep-up with framework upgrades when the

It has to be combined with another attack. If the victim's mail server bounces the email it will be sent back to the attacker's mail server. One possible approach to do that is to fill the target email so they reach their quota.

Talking about value, what is the price difference between a regular road sign and a e-paper version? How many employees could be hired changing the physical road signs given the price difference?

Why not use an existing tool like terraform? Terraform is able to manage resources from dyn, route53 and other DNS providers fairly easily.
