I thought that peoples' reactions to electron apps was way overblown, and it certainly comes with benefits, like customizability. So I thought I'd try hyper shell on windows. It was unusable. I expected terminal windows to open ri

The widespread abuse of power in government agencies makes this argument a little naive imo. The vast majority of what they do has very little effect on anyone's safety. I'd rather be able to communicate privately and let people k

Don't you think it's more likely that he's just using these projects to garner some goodwill and sympathy?

I think a lot of people hadn't seriously considered the option of working from home before. Now that a lot more people have done so, they are starting to weigh the pros and cons as the parent comment is doing.

Am I wrong or is fulcro frontend only though? You wouldn’t get access to any server resources so you still need to manage syncing state with the server. Or am I wrong about that?

I think I agree with your broader point, but it would be a mistake to trust apple to keep your data private.

But if that's the case couldn't there just be a library that provides all the functionality without having to switch languages? Something like boost but for plain C?

I think I saw in one of his blogs that he used arc elsewhere. I imagine "arc.arc" and "html.arc" were relevant to other projects as well, so I doubt they were developed just for this.

I think that example was interesting because he basically described BitTorrent (a more general Napster that's not just a push-button music player) as the potential brainchild of astronauts, but that actually was really useful to millio

Hate to pile on, but I'm glad it's not just me. When I read their docs, I just get the feeling that I'm kind of dumb, or I just don't have the context they expect me to have.

Yes, autopilot is just cruise control. No other cruise control I've used before violently brakes on the highway for no reason. I don't think expecting it to not do that is unreasonable.

Unfortunately that skepticism is warranted today. American politics were always somewhat broken in the past, but the blatant partisanship today makes any kind of progress almost impossible.

While I think this is extremely shady and will avoid ever using a tool like this in the future, does it actually break google's TOS? It seems like a valid defense could be made.

I'm still really upset that confluence bought and ruined pipeline db. It solved my problem perfectly and I haven't seen one yet that fits what I needed as well.

Funny but I can actually see peertube appealing to big YouTubers, especially if there's an ecosystem around it, like apps and fully hosted servers.

Even the marketing you mentioned isn't really necessary. That's what happened when you're a monopoly, bad reputation doesn't really hurt the bottom line.

I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty certain that's not how the GPL works. It has no effect on the content you create using the tool. It places restrictions on redistribution of the code itself. I don't think there are any l

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but it was only added to Mac fairly recently too, maybe around a year ago. And for a while it was behind an about:config setting as well.

Comments like the one you replied to honestly seem kind of silly. The "problem" you're describing is as old as time, it's not some new phenomenon the west bumped into.

Well that's to be expected, but if a lot of search engines start using it, it's likely that websites will start allowing it to crawl and index their pages. So there might be potential there.
