That's interesting to me since I've been using close-to-vanilla lunarvim for the past year and it's been great. I'm just not into customizing my editor much, and only touch my config when I'm annoyed by something. T

Agreed, but I think most people spend most of their time working on things more complicated than a blog. It seems there's a lot of excitement for purely static sites, which is fine, but I would call it hype at this point, and caution s

I agree, that would be super annoying, but at the same time the law would still be mostly working this case, since you still don't need to eg fax a form or have to get on a long phone call. I think "the effort you need to sign up&

Software people are so presumptuous. Imagine at random times when you flip a light switch the power company flashes you an error about a complaint leveled at another company. It's frankly not the user's business what happens betwe

I think my experiences are just very different from yours, but I found that declarative markup was the only sane way to represent visual UI elements. The classic example is using an imperative JS API like element.innerHTML = '...'

Even so, web developers always had the option of sticking with an imperative approach to UI, like using element.innerHTML = '...', but overwhelmingly they preferred more declarative solutions like React. You could just as easily m

That's not the impression I got. Those empty billboards are, from my perspective, preferable to advertisements. The fact that some people took advantage of the space to draw art is a nice bonus, but even without that it's a positi

I love kagi but I hate this. It's not their fault, it's just a limitation of the os but it's such a hassle when you have to solve a Google captcha to get kagi results. I'm considering just removing that from my phone and

I think lahmacun's origins are at least more complicated than just Turkish. Even the name means "meat with dough" in Arabic. As you said it was invented in many places though.

I've been using lazygit and it's amazing. I used to use magit and I think it's great but lazygit seems to have an easier learning curve and is trying to accomplish the same thing (easy reach to the most common git actions).

A long article about essentially nothing. Maybe it's just my circles but I don't know anyone who thinks going on a vacation is some transformative experience, so I don't totally understand why this article needed to have been

I agree with you, but I think when people complain about "capitalism" today, what they mean essentially is "greed", meaning profits above all other concerns. Obviously that's not the precise definition of capitalism

The infrastructure costs next to nothing compared to what they're charging. There is a natural equilibrium point between communities, the landlord, the moderators, etc, and this clearly isn't it. Someone else will find it though.

I was talking with a friend about this the other day and he brought up a good point. If you were about to IPO as a company, this is not a bad decision from a business standpoint (cut costs, bring as many users as possible under your contro

I think the original intention was to get ahead of the story but I think the apollo dev's announcement that he's shutting down the app is going to make that difficult at this point.

The way that works is you pay apple an annual fee so that they will sign your applications using their key. Their devices still check that the application is signed by apple. I think you could reasonably say you have no control over that de

Maybe I'm just sandwiched between those generations but I don't see how those are equivalent. The desire for stable housing isn't a social construct. If you can't secure that you'll always be stressed.

Unpopular opinion but I didn't mind it on this site. Reading this on a phone it's like scrubbing through a video for part of the article. I usually agree it's annoying though.

To be honest I'm not sure what the parent comment was expecting, this is kind of a normal audiophile response. But it shows that the engineering that apple does with their speakers is not made for audiophiles, it wows people who are us
