My understanding is, if you pay for a support contract, they are happy to make it legally binding. It's literally the most used database in the world, but a giant margin. Every Android and iOS device and every mac and linux machine us

They get world-class insurance. They do pay for it, but I never said it was free. Incentives matter. If Senators & Congress people were given only medicare and not their ACA Gold plan + perks, medicare would probably be a lot better of

Senators and congresspeople get their own very high quality insurance. They have no incentive to fix it, their own health care is world-class.

What would a nation state level attack look like? If they took over the network, it wouldn't really give them anything useful. If they took all the bitcoins, the value would plummet rapidly towards zero, unless they were willing to p

I think it all depends on your local purchasing department(every govt agency/department gets their own, pretty much). Our department's attitude can be summed up(by me) as: select the best solution to meet your needs, mostly irreg

I didn't say it was easy :) I think you could sign up across a set of servers, whoever is willing to put their server in the list. But you are correct, there are a host of issues, since it's all decentralized. That's the co

Good to hear! I haven't tried Snikket, but the more idiot-proof you can make it, the better. Invites seems overly complicated. Can you make it 1 question? what's your email address? Then you just sign them up for a server and tel

If you think BTC is anonymous you have a mistaken understanding of how permanently public blockchain transactions are. A given transaction might be "anonymous" today(for some definition of anonymous), but chances are it won't

All of this is based on the premise that 1) Countries want external control of their international transactions 2) They accept Bitcoin as said thing. They are sort of , to some degree, forced to 1, by the US Govt. there is likely near zero

And none of the XMPP clients or any of the Matrix clients get the on-boarding step idiot-proof. Matrix tries harder at it, maybe they will eventually succeed. I have zero hope for XMPP, but I'm happy to be surprised.

Bitcoin and most(all?) crypto currencies pretty much suck for payments. I think a BTC transaction costs around $16 USD just to get it on the blockchain now. Plus transactions are not private, and they are permanently public, so even if your

My math doesn't compute with yours: depending on how you define a TB(memory tends to favour the latter definition, but YMMV): 1,000,000,000,000 / 7.8billion = 128.21 bytes per human. 1,099,511,627,776 / 7.8billion = 140.96 by

Git's syncing system is custom and unique also. But yes I agree. You can just copy/overwrite the SQLITE DB file, and do a bulk replace. Not the same as 2-way sync that Fossil will give you, obviously.

You can't add files or commits from the web UI. The wiki has had some work done to it in recent versions, it has preview now for instance. Fossil syncs *FOR* you. let fossil handle syncing, that is it's bread and butter.

I use Fossil-SCM for that. 100% OSS, it's a single Sqlite DB file for backups, etc. It's totally fine being offline or online and totally fine being de-synchronized for years and catching up. I put my legal and financial info on

Not really. Git's history is 100% fungible, you can mix and match git's history like a swiss army knife. There are VCS's out there that have unfungible history. Fossil SCM is one such VCS. Git is an amazing VCS swiss army k

Banks tend to be just as picky. Seeing as Stripe needs continuing love from banks, they are probably contractually obligated to be equally picky. This is a banking and regulation issue probably and not a Stripe or Paypal specific issue.
