Accessibility (a11y) is an interesting and exciting topic, but it's exhausting to see yet another SEO guy to add his two cents about it. From a technical point of view, web a11y is almost exclusively about semantics or machine readabil

I have never heard of Dan Carlin and it might be an intentional juxtaposition, but the title feels like clickbait.

People mistake accessibility for personal taste.

It's more about being pretentious. If you show me a nice program you coded, I'd say "that's cool". If you show me a nice program you coded and tell me that you've been inspired by John Backus, Richard Stallman

If I go to the supermarket, almost every smoothie bottle looks somewhat like the new Soylent bottle. I can't tell if they actually took inspiration from Dieter Rams, but it's really easy to refer to him since he is like the father

Dear (Soylent) designers, please stop comparing yourselves with big names like Kubrick or Rams. You designed a plastic bottle - no more, no less.

Nobody is clueless for supposedly not knowing every Tumblr meme out there. If you have anything worthwhile to say, please refer to the actual content of this article.

For example, there is a reason[1] why round avatars are a bad idea. Although I must say that twitter.com seems to have improved in terms of keyboard navigation and the visible keyboard focus. [1]: https://twitter.com/MattNav

Every link throws an error 404 which doesn't tell me that it's a 404. Great design.

FFFFOUND really is one of the last true "brutalist websites"[0]. Today's "minimalistic" websites have lots of whitespace and probably good typography, but also hundreds of KB of JavaScript and fucking progress bars.

Maybe "vanilla as possible" is not desirable if it means that your markup is non-semantic. I like that Txt.fyi tries to be as simple as possible, but there are some UI anti-patterns like the textarea placeholder instead of a match

Seriously, if I have to see one more burger menu on a desktop site … I have to click unnecessarily on the icon to see the navigation (which, of course, overlaps the whole page). Terrific.

This is really great, I love the simplistic design. The thing is, it is keyboard driven, but not necessarily accessible for visually impaired users. I would like to see ARIA attributes, a more semantic interface and better color contrast.
