My credit card company can not legally sell my purchasing history to the highest bidder.[1] Google can not tracking my searching if I am connected via a public proxy (very common, in fact) Most people don't have smartphones, and most don't

College student here, no facebook and won't be getting one either. Granted, since I'm posting on HN there is a bit of selection bias, but my good friend who is a typical liberal arts major doesn't have one either because he heard about "so

Doesn't this quote say it all? "The investigation began before Standard & Poor’s cut the United States’ AAA credit rating this month"

Never had this issue, so it sounds like an error. Or maybe google is just messing with you ;)

I mean, I have no doubt in your statement, I don't know many people who can't tell the difference, I just never have been able to.

Really? See, I drink mostly decaf espresso, and I'm pretty picky about my coffee, grind my own beans, etc. I can't tell a difference. If it's good coffee, it's good. If not, it's not, no matter decaf or regular. Am I the only one?

Thanks for those normalized graphs. Really gives a striking visual rebuttal to ISP's baseless claims.

git status is very helpful in understanding the git because it shows you the differences between the working directory, index, and previous commi, index, and previous committ. The first commit is missing it's 't', which it looks like the

Exactly. What company doesn't favor its own products to people who are using something the company provides free of charge?

I can't see the article, but if you thought it was distracting, I don't think you should be downvoted. However, I'm guessing it happened because of the way you said it, FWIW.

It isn't computer science per se, but it is a list of common tasks that many CS grads will end up doing in their career. However, I think it is basically a list of things for those who are going into web/software dev type positions. If I'

As a user of Stack Overflow only when google brings me there, I'm curious as to why the answer received so many upvotes? It is certainly a good answer, but the score seems disproportional to the utility.

I use USAA for my general banking, but their savings interest rates just aren't competitive. I've had smaller transfers go that quickly, but larger ones still seem to take a couple days.

I've waited > 1wk before for middle-sized transfers. What network rules are there? I wasn't aware of anything other than float causing delays in inter-bank transfers.

I've never used, but for a general purpose bank, I hear good things about Ally. A pretty good site that gathers info and allows for some research is http://www.mybanktracker.com/

To be honest, ING was one of my favorite banks. They handled security very well, and the customer service always knew what they were doing. After hearing this, well, I'll keep my account for now, but prior experience with Capital One make

Tangent to the article, but what I really want is a bank that allows me to do funds transfers immediately. I understand they make a lot of money off of the floating period, but there's got to be a way to place some other kind of restrictio

Well, the article said "any paypal account", and I can't get it to send a reset token to an unauthorized email, so at the least it seems that either the claim was wrong, or they fixed it.

The major place I miss a hardware button is to end calls. If the software is just slow (not frozen), it can lead to awkward trying to hang-up sounds for the other party.

You are looking for a sequence of 5 characters that differ by one character, but are otherwise identical (order matters). For example, an answer would be something like '89^hf' and '8z^hf'

For those who don't have time to read the article, "mini Ice Age" literally means that winter will last longer, and be more prevalent at lower altitudes/latitudes. Mildly sensational, but an interesting read.

I'm sorry you've had that experience. I've worked as a waiter, and was never pressured to report anything other than what I made. I'm not advocating for poor tipping, I was just clarifying for those not in the US how the law is written.
