Chatroulette is not really an alternative to skype, but the link was interesting. I think the OP was looking for a similar video chat client. I've personally never used skype, but for 1-1 video chatting, gchat works pretty well. I use it n

It's a well-known mid-atlantic school in the US. If that still fits the profile, feel free to email me(see my profile) and I'd be happy to discuss things more with you.

I'd echo naner and schwabacher, and also say that defending PHP isn't going to bring pg down on you. If you have a history of poorly-received comments, that might be the place I start looking.

This is just another anecdotal datapoint, but I've found substantially less arrogance in my CS program than in some of the other bigger majors here (IR, Govt, Econ). I think it helps that some of the best and brightest students spend a vas

A minor detail, but the word used to describe his location was "compound", which might give a very different interpretation than villa. Not saying villa is wrong, just offering the source material for people to consider.

The downvotes aren't for the idea of decentralized terrorism (which is correct to a degree), but I think for the possible misinterpretation of the sarcasm at the end of the post as being not such.

I'm unaware of the legal hurdles immigrants have to face, never having to deal with it personally. It's upsetting to hear this, especially when we're talking about the kind of people our government keeps telling us we need. Such is the wa

Couldn't agree move, save the point about professors hating dealing with undergrads. Even the most research focused professors actually enjoy talking to undergrads given that they are respectful and show some desire to learn (in my experie

I'm excited to see that the populace at large (not just tech enthusiasts) are learning about something other than iOS, but I'd be wary of calling this a big win for Google or something similar. Remember that APPL is still raking in much mo

Oh I agree, I don't know how you would go about it, and I'm sure it's not easy or it would have been done. Talking with someone who has actual experience in both research and ROI studies leads me to believe however that these companies hav

I'd be willing to guess that you are more concerned with revenue because you have shareholders to answer to. R&D is something that doesn't show up on the bottom line with regularity. Sure, you might develop something huge and make ton

Could someone who knows better comment on the feasibility of this? It sounds like a really good idea, but I'd imagine it's a bit more difficult than it sounds.

Is there something about the page that I'm missing? Is it just about median of median pivot selection for the selection problem? If so, isn't this fairly common knowledge? I know my entry-level algorithms class covered it in some depth.

I think "shit like this" is fairly subjective, so you can see the rest of the thread for that part. I agree with MikeCampo, this was certainly not old to me, and I truthfully enjoyed it and would have never even found it without the repost

Don't even need to do that, a simple BIOS update can update the microcode on most semi-recent Intels. EDIT: I'd assume other architectures as well, Intels are the only ones I know about, however.

Am I along in never being "taught" recursion? I mean, throughout my curriculum, I've used recursion many times and dealt with everything from fibonacci to quicksort, but never once have I sat through even part of a lecture on "Recursion".
