They do? I agree that fixed headers that are repositioned on scroll events shudder noticeably, but when headers have a fixed positioned via CSS I haven't seen this (e.g. Facebook and Twitter's implementations).

Another point in favor of APIs is that scrapers are very brittle, and likely to break with changes to content presentation. Also, scrapers have a lot more overhead as you need to both receive and parse the markup data.

I would argue that the proper implementation provides real rate limiting, both in terms of max requests per second and also max concurrent requests. Limiting to one concurrent request is likely to be extremely slow for any significant amoun

Perhaps comparing it to color theory is a stretch, but I think comparing it to something like 'learning how to see' as an artist is apt, and highlights the absurdity of the position you've taken.

After using Sublime for a little over a year now, I've found the minimap is not useful as a map per se, but I do find it handy for two things. First, it's an omnipresent 'fingerprint' of the file I'm looking at, and I think subconsciously i

I agree about West LA completely, but I feel people are missing the bigger story about LA's homeless problems: skid row. I volunteered at a soup kitchen there for a few months several years ago, and it was as bad as the worst I've seen in S

That's an excellent comparison, but from my understanding there's not a concept of ongoing users beyond the author of any individual post. Great point, though, that seems like the highest-profile similar example.

If you pull up the web inspector, this site actually dynamically changes the font-size property of the body text when you zoom in/out to maintain the same size. It's very bizarre, I don't understand the intentions of the designer at all.

This would be a more significant concern if he was driving his own car, but since it's a Tesla owned review model, I'm sure they have legal rights to it. In addition, given their past troubles with Top Gear I wouldn't be surprised if Tesla

No, they did it because he said that he set the cruise control to 54 mph (a very specific number), which is clearly refuted by the data. In other words, it destroys his credibility.

You're arguing a straw man point; while the speed difference may have contributed to the discharge, I don't believe anyone's arguing it made the difference.

My understanding is that PNGs are in general smaller than gifs for equivalent quality, so wouldn't the animated version be similarly smaller?

This is true for the majority of animations, but .gifs have come to serve a niche for short video content sans audio that they uniquely fulfill on the web. If APNG or MNG or whatever could replace huge animated .gifs for things like r/cinem
