I have had three cheap ones in that price range fail. I suspect the Pi Hat version is better designed.

I find it delightful to think of EV charging rates in MPH. The original Leaf tops out at around 24 MPH, while modern Tesla super chargers are 200+ MPH charge rate.

I have wall switches and a power meter that use the ESP32 internally. Consumer products. How much more "real" would you like?

The only reason to heat a water tank rather than on demand is if your electrical connection can't supply enough power for peak loads. This can be true for domestic hot water, like showers and sinks. Tankless hot water heaters exist (an

I totally agree. Last time this happened with an app I use and trust, I rooted my phone and switched to lineageos to allow F-droid auto-updates. Google is not making me want to keep using their services. https://f-droid.org/

Independent 'a service was down' insurance isn't the same though. It is important for the cost to come out of the provider's pocket, thus giving them a huge financial incentive to not be down. Having that incentive in pl

I agree that much of the problem is the hardware. I went through several cheap routers before I finally found one that was stable after a year of use. That one worked great for >8 years. I just upgraded, and went with a device intended t

What about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IKAROS ? The only new part, is that Lightsail is a cubesat, right? (IKAROUS was 315 kg.) From article: "Our criteria was to demonstrate controlled solar sailing in a CubeSat

SSL/TLS? Or a more custom cryptographic solution? When you're putting such a small device on a network, it can be helpful to be able to offload some of the encryption heavy-lifting to dedicated hardware.

For many low-accuracy applications, just an RC oscillator is used. This sounds like a good way to reduce part count for systems that need the accuracy of a crystal - if the main IC is made by TI.

What do you think of the prices? I imagine many people will get sticker shock, but is this a good price in the world of DIN-rail-mounted embedded computers?

Not a direct answer, but I just wanted to point out how handy it is that you can publish to your public keybase directory, and have it hosted at keybase.pub, something like this: https://abhi.keybase.pub/2016/02/15

The inverse is also true - the FX160 runs off of 120/240V directly, which is rather convenient if you don't want to use a 5V DC power brick that's larger than the Pi itself. Makes for a rather clean installation if you'r
