I never understand the obsession with video. It's the first thing my kids reach for when searching for information about something and it's always painfully slow and inefficient. Does 5 minutes of side by side videos of GPUs playi

It's similar in my fridge. Instead of a temperature dial, it has touch sensitive buttons, so the slightest brush with a jar drops the temperature or puts it into fast-chill mode, which will freeze the vegetables in the drawers.

Eclipse CLP still seems slightly active: https://eclipseclp.org/ . I used it for some process scheduling research in the early 2000s but I've never had the chance to apply it in the non-academic world

Exactly. Code reviews shouldn't be about code formatting or anything that can be automated away with linters, formatters, code coverage limits and static analysis. If the build is green for the PR, then all that is already acceptable.

A lot (most?) new EVs support 200+kW charging and there are quite a lot of 400kW chargers around already.

If I'm understanding correctly, the issue is "twice as likely to live" vs "half as likely to die", which isn't quite as terrible a mistake as the intro makes out IMHO.

I remember a friend showing me photos from someone who shot a sparcstation and proved they were literally bulletproof. I can’t find them now though.

There has to be a system where pensions and elderly care can be sustained at replacement birth rates, doesn't there? Otherwise we're in real trouble.

Beautiful hardware, but wouldn't a 3.5MHz Z80 have been underpowered for a server in the early 80s? That's the CPU in a Spectrum 48k, not exactly a high end machine in 1982.

The risk for the employer is (risk that an employee is an embezzler) x (risk that your systems fail to catch them), though, so you probably want to minimize both terms?

PID design was on my undergrad Chem Eng 2nd year curriculum in the 90s. I took it the year Starcraft came out, so my grade suffered a bit.

Yeah, it's not like the humans in this story were showing their best side, but AVs have to tak that kind of stupidity into account I think. Like the fact that a cyclist on the other side of the road is a hazard to you, not because of t

Compared to when I was at school, 25-30 years ago, the current UK maths syllabus is much harder. It still focuses far too much on "how" rather than "why", though.

Renault tried that with the Zoe, but they've abandoned it now. As I understand it, battery degradation has been less than even the automakers were predicting.

I don't see any evidence in the linked article that it's due to a lack of confidence? Could it not be issues like (for example), new models being released at lower price points with better range?

I don't think the parent is making a point about battery degradation, more that EV technology is advancing much faster than ICE. It's not 10% cheaper to make a petrol engine every year, after all.

The trims in the EV6 are frustrating. In the UK, at least, I couldn't get the all round cameras without also getting 20" wheels, which would have cut range and made the ride worse. In everything apart from the base model you'
