I've just canceled ours. Prime in the UK is £79/year for (in my experience) guaranteed free next-day delivery. But Amazon's prices have been creeping up and I frequently find things are significantly cheaper elsewhere. Plus t

sitting there listening to blocks of talks for long stretches while you’re trying to stay awake after lunch is a pretty inefficient way to hear ideas. Pretty much this. I'm constantly pushed to use my training budget to go to confere

More importantly - what about the reverse case? Presumably someone issuing a real ballistic missile warning is doing so while terrified and in a hurry. The consequences of pressing the "This is a drill" button in that case are a

Indeed, that's a dangerous path to start down. Something like 60% of the UK population is overweight: do we stop treating Type 2 diabetes because it's self-inflicted? It would save billions of pounds, after all. Personally I think

Could you somehow mark cache lines that are filled by speculatively executed instructions so they only become visible to normally executed instructions when the speculative instructions are committed? I guess that would require a lot more l

Quiet, you're spoiling the narrative we're imposing on semi-random, chaotic events.

about:studies->Preferences shows "Allow Firefox to install and run studies" is enabled on my copy of Firefox 57.0.2(OSX). I don't remember opting in at install time, was it hidden behind some innocuous-sounding checkbox?

Not that I don't take the point, but presumably if mankind were in an endless decline into intellectual laziness, then each of the writers in that XKCD comic would be correct: they'd each be sampling a different segment of the sam

Can we limit them for use by parents as well? Playgrounds seem to be the place parents go to look at Facebook while their kids yell "look at me mummy" forlornly.

I remember seeing something like this with an some version of 10.12 as well. Stupidly it didn't occur to me that it was a security issue.

That's kind of clever: http://www.halfbakery.com/idea/Eutectic_20water_20heater#151... Although rendered kind of pointless with modern on-demand boilers.

Thanks for the pointer. It builds and runs well. Font rendering is fine on my MacBook's retina screen, but it looks terrible on my external monitor for some reason.

Does anyone have any recommendations for NeoVim GUI client on OSX? VimR is nice, but very buggy in my experience. I'm using Neovim.app at the moment after fixing a few bugs in it, but it's got plenty of issues.

FZF is fantastic, but has anyone managed to make it work in MacVim? I just get weird display corruption and control characters in my search string when I use it. Works great in the terminal and neovim.app etc.

While I agree there isn't a huge difference any more, the iPhone 6s is noticeably faster than a 6. The gap from the 6 to the 8 is presumably even larger. I find it kind of depressing* , but people do use their phones constantly, so thi

Debugging? Xcode defaults to F6/F7/F8 for step over/in/out. Many IDEs do something similar. The alternative is to map some key combination, but it's much easier to be able to hit one key instead of Ctrl-something.
