HN probably thinks you're implying that immigration decreases your wages, but that's not necessarily wrong. By basic economic theory, an increase in the supply of labor decreases wages. Eventually you get the situation in the U.S.

At the very least it proves you don't need OOP to do UIs. It is more difficult to implement ECS (there isn't a long tradition of it and libraries like MVC has) but well worth the effort. It's more suited to native UIs than we

There's a third option, an Entity-Component System (ECS). It is common in games but scales well to UIs. Everything in your UI is stored in a flat structure. Instead of putting a button in a widget 5 layers of nesting deep, you put them

I don't know what people do with laptops with soldered-on <256GB SSDs. Just your OS and swap will take up half that. Your option is then to remote into some other machine to do your work, but you can't do that on the go without

I'm using Fedora, haven't had any sleep problems. If you're using GNOME or KDE, they are notorious for hijacking ACPI handling. Try "# systemctl suspend" to rule out it being Linux's fault.

I use this. I like it. Upgraded the SSD and added the motherboard max of 32G RAM. If you are using Linux on a laptop, you have a choice between dealing with NVIDIA's proprietary garbage or bad integrated graphics. AMD GPU on a laptop i

Most "AI" is a scam but "blockchain" is far worse of an offender. "Blockchain" has zero utility in the business world. Its only use case is decentralized, censorship-resistant protocols. No one is trying to cen

There was a company that got rid of its entire customer service staff after BERT came out. Someone convinced them that the Turing test was solved. I'm not sure what's their status now but I bet they brought humans back.

DL has not just arrived. It has been going on since before 2010 in industry and universities. There are multiple cohorts of PhDs in it. DL is useful obviously. Some of the biggest products in the world depend on it for almost their entire v

Managed cloud products seem like dark magic to me. A VPS or EC2 VM is just like the computer I'm using right now. There's no magic. If something goes wrong, I can fix it as if it were on my local machine since it's often lite

Rust is getting better. It recently got async/await which imo is a much cleaner and undeniably faster way to do concurrency than Go's channels/CSP. It's not really fair to compare Rust's ecosystem to Go's becau

"list" in Go is not equivalent to Rust vec. List is a linked list of boxed entities. Of course they can have different types because it is a linked list; each cell lives elsewhere on the heap. The Go equivalent to vec is an array
