For direct emissions: Stop burning stuff. Do you call it fuel? Stop burning it. Or at least burn it as little as possible. EVs and heat pumps solve two of biggest personal direct emissions sources: transportation and heating living spaces.

It is. EU has CO2 emissions trading at about 50 EUR per ton and rising. Even China has just recently established a national CO2 trading scheme.

The easiest way to approach this is to "stop burning stuff". Is a material being burned? Then it almost certainly emits CO2. Do you call it fuel? Stop using it or use it as little as possible. Most personal energy use is for heati

Individuals can and should reduce their direct CO2 footprint. Most of personal energy budget goes for transportation and heating and/or cooling the living spaces. Two solutions enable you to stop directly burning stuff: EVs and heatpum

It is hard to "care". People are bombarded with articles and viewpoints and even lies to the point that they are unable to orient themselves - and just zone out. When the easiest thing to say is to just tell them to "stop bur

Having anything pressurised is a liability, be it CO2 or steam. I am puzzled how the turbine can be 20 times smaller. That would mean 20 times the load or even more. What is it made of?

One could generalize Tim Bray's "everyone should stop driving fossil vehicles starting now." into "everyone should stop burning stuff ASAP". Burning stuff is the largest source of CO2 emissions. The two largest sour

Vehicles are being replaced every year. Think of buying a new ICE car as a subscription to fossil fuels, as you can't easily make fuel for ICE engine from renewable energy. The reverse is true - you can make electricity from fossil fue

Well, you either have to take care to check each package size or you could, you know, maybe make sure the food chains label the cost of product per standard unit of weight. But I guess this would be too much - air quotes - re-gyu-lay-tion

Heat pump is essentially a "reverse mount of a refrigerator", putting heat in and throwing cold out. In the worst case, the pump will degrade into a heating element, only outputting heat from electricity (which is what a regular e

Test before upgrade. There is one risk for this migration - versioning has changed a bit between 9.6 and 10 and some libraries have an issue with that. (They need to be updated.)

sqlite also uses fsync, which at least on Linux has corner cases where errors don't even get reported. When fsync does report error, you should panic, as even if the subsequent fsync returns ok, that does not mean the data for which th
