Indeed, I believe it is a central tenet of Islam. Whether most Muslims believe it or not is another matter (most don't). In short, this verse from the Quran sums it up pretty well ( http://quran.com/9/5 ): "And when the sacred months have p

Honest question. If it would make your fiancé's family happy, would you claim allegiance to Hitler and condone his actions "in name only"? Do you really think that it's okay to condone the subjugation or murder of all people that won't conv

The better pianos (Steinway, Mason & Hamlin) from the 1920s are actually still very valuable and in demand. A well kept or restored grand piano from that era costs > $20,000 and can be one of the best deals out there for a good inst

The intermediate resolution of 3840x2400 exists solely as a tiny step in the rescaling algorithm, a step which in itself does not add any information that wasn't there in the original 1920x1200 image. The thing you're missing is that this

Choosing the right tool for data visualization is important and scatterplots aren't good for everything, but they have their place and can be really useful. For instance this scatterplot from carsabi.com shows a lot of very useful informati

I strongly prefer logically grouping related styles. The only advantage from alphabetizing rules is perhaps slightly faster scanning of rules, but I don't think it is even very helpful in doing that. You generally don't have that many rules

Don't just dismiss it outright. If you have some insight and think the article is wrong then refute it with a meaningful, substantial argument.

Who is this for? While I appreciate the effort and attention to detail that was put into this, I don't think this is really useful to anyone as it is intended. For a new or novice Vim user, this kind of thing is too much at once and could a

That's kind of the point of log files. As a contrived example, what if users suddenly couldn't upload files that ended in .jpeg instead of .jpg. How would they be able to diagnose the problem if they didn't store data about image filenames?

No. You can't build iOS apps with it, but you can build OS X apps — even for the App Store. The main problem in my understanding is the lack of garbage collection on iOS. Someone mentioned that iOS 5 enabled GC, but I think maybe they are r

The solution? MacRuby! Take the surplus of enthusiasm for Ruby, combine it with the high demand for iOS developers, and there you have it! Now if only Apple would make MacRuby a first-class language for developing iOS apps...

Why are we celebrating irresponsible commit messages? Are people finding these to be that funny in the first place? Here's a 5 minute talk from this year's Rocky Mountain Ruby conference that explains why good commit messages are important:

This is pretty cool, I'd love to see it work with Dvorak! I don't know if this is something you want to do, but if you'd like to add Dvorak I mapped the coordinates for it here: https://gist.github.com/1195948 Thanks!

To me part of the benefit of typing in Dvorak is that I'm touch-typing all the time. Don't rearrange the keys, just learn to type entirely blind.
