It might be a conversation for another time, but dog bite cases are a staple of basic tort claims. Plenty of recourse - an owner is responsible for any reasonably foreseeable harm caused by their animal. Doesn't stop certain obnoxious

I don't think the problem is with service animal laws, which I think are genuinely well-intentioned, but with the type of people who would consider owning a potentially dangerous dog in the first place. Some animals really aren't

I would actually agree with this! An NFT is primarily a financial vehicle - that's the core purpose - albeit one that comes "decorated" with visual trappings. For a dumb analogy, you can put a bow tie and a party hat on a sta

To find white collar employment? At least before remote work became prevalent recently, I suppose so. On the other hand, the infrastructure for a large urban area doesn't run itself! Trade work is definitely needed to keep the roads pa

I think #1 needs to factor in cost of living. In many urban areas, 45K is near or even below the poverty level for a single worker.

I'm a little taken aback at 100M+ qualifying as "not a lot of cash" in comparison to, say, YC's usual funding level for brand new companies? I think it might be restating the obvious to say that a company pulling in 100M

This question reminds me of the cognate question for aspiring writers: "What do I do to become a quote-unquote real writer?" It's impossible to give a blanket answer since everyone takes their own path! But this might be help

Exactly. It's the employer's property, and aren't there such things as devices you own? Why blur the lines on something like that? This reads more like an overreaction to a lapse of judgment more than anything else.

That seems to ring true, but - it also seems a bit defeatist, don't you think? "Never question a scientific superior?" Not parsing that concept, please elaborate.

Echoing other comments, your company was acquired. The way you're used to doing things sounds like it's quite different from how the new owners do things. I can't make any sort of judgment call on which is or isn't "

It's obviously implying a threat if you're at all familiar with the legal sphere. Passive-aggressive language, sure, but still not exactly inviting the recipient to a picnic, and passive-aggressive language doesn't get you of

Trust people to know what they're doing? A lot of PR reviews tend to devolve into almost anything but solving the issue at hand.

Yes, there are! Familiar with this approach, pretty common with greenfield development. After causing a few outages and issues that you have to hear about, one learns fairly quickly not to write code that needs endless PR reviews.

It's tempting to say something sarcastic like "If you want tidy stories, stick to fairy tales," but that would be unnecessarily sarcastic. There's a little more that goes into well-written novels than following strictly-

Just out of curiosity - I wouldn't use vehicular manslaughter as a point of comparison for open source projects? Is there a reference I'm missing with that part of the comment?

Not 100% on topic, but related - not mining or using crypto or writing apps / software / sites that enable it, at least the ones like Bitcoin that are massively greedy re: electrical usage, might also be effective.

I like the idea, it's fun playing around with text-to-speech generators. AWS Polly is slick, nicely done. But podcasts? There has got to be a more interesting use case than that.

Nobody wants to mention "don't roll your own security"? That's a 101 kind of question - very easy to feel clever when you try it as an amateur, nightmarish when (really not if, when) you get it wrong. That is one area wh

Or, for the contrarian view, you have a few people mutually reinforcing poor coding practices under the guise of whatever they view as readable and maintainable, which in my experience is equally likely.

Starting a company will do that! There's no time to ruminate on whether you "ought" to be this or that when you're busy keeping the lights on and building out your product, etc.

That's a gritty question! First things first, I would think about the parts that went well, that you actually liked, then look for a role that incorporates those same elements to the extent feasible. Really dig into that one and isolat

If social media is to be believed, firing 2,000+ employees is also a bit concerning. At a bare minimum, that does not show much confidence in the organizational structure they put together, either.
