I've found ovh.com to be pretty good, but they've only got localised sites for some European countries (look for the flags at the bottom of the page), so they wouldn't be much help in the US. I've had good experiences with gandi.com, but th

Raganwald is also mentioning refactoring the code so that the data objects become responsible for persisting and displaying themselves though. I don't necessarily have any problems with the persisting (that's how ActiveRecord works out of t

This lacks quite a lot of (interesting) detail. The differences between Windows and Ubuntu are more than the icons and the games; what about Office (OO is quite different, particularly for advanced uses of Excel), Outlook, Active Directory,

I'd agree with that - I haven't developed for Apple, but we run quite a few old applications for Windows at work, and it would be a big problem for us if they stopped working in a new version of Windows. Removing the old cruft means that ol

That's true, but I'll live with wondering a little longer. In the meantime, it seems that Lua is still quite a bit faster than ruby 1.9.0, even though ruby 1.9.0 is approaching Python 2 territory (tested 7 months ago): http://shootout.alio

London is a tough city to live in. I've been here 10 years now, and whilst it's true that you can subsist on little money, the quality of life is low and the stress levels are high. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone who cares abou

I'm not sure I agree that you're always 100% in control of your emotions. If you think you're in control, they're not really emotions anymore; you've suppressed them, and replaced them with what you wanted to feel, which is fine but isn't r

You do get used to the layout in Vim eventually, but I agree it isn't intuitive. I've been tempted to remap HJKL to HTNS (the right hand home keys in Dvorak) in Vim, but haven't done so yet. The main reason that I haven't tried out Colemak
