I'm not sure that he is. How many times are psychics booked on shows to prove that they are psychic? Instead, they appear on shows like Montel Williams to tell parents of missing children what has happened to their child. They get a lot of

The reddit comments for this article pointed to a letter Randi wrote regarding his cancer. It's light on details, but hopeful. http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/jref-news/663-announceme...

Wow, I hadn't heard that Randi has cancer. I can't seem to find any more detail than is in the article, but this is obviously very bad news.

The comparison to homeschoolers seems a bit off. First, there are very few other students in a homeschooled kid's class. It makes sense that a kid will do better in a class of two or three, rather than eighteen or twenty. Additionally, kids

Think of it this way -- the difference between your salary and your market value is effectively money you're donating to the nonprofit. If you don't want to donate that much, either ask for a raise, or quit, get a new job, and write a check

I applied to this past summer, but won't be applying this winter. I (and the people I applied with) graduated, and got jobs. Well, they did. For some reason, my resume must be screaming "don't hire". So no co-founder. Also, I can't seem to

Some Japanese scientists did a study to show how traffic jams can appear of of nowhere. They told 22 drivers to drive in a circular path at 30 km/h. A traffic jam appeared, and moved backward. The video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watc

Ok, I see that we're not really having a conversation anymore, so I think I'm just about done. Two quick points: one -- if your job is to find bugs, finding lots of bugs is doing your job well. Two -- I'm not saying this behavior is rationa

As I see it, there's a single disagreeing study: Cameron, J. (2001), and that study found that people increased intrinsic motivation when they were rewarded for either beating others, or when intrinsic motivation was low to begin with. Neit

I listen to psychologists on this because they're the people who have done rigorous studies on the issue. Seems like a good reason to listen to them. Why are you railing against this? The data are against you.

Humans are not rational when it comes to money. There are many studies that illustrate this. For example, if you give someone a choice between a candy bar and $1.00, they will choose the candy bar with greater frequency than if you give the

This idea seems contrary to Gates's goals. He's said that he wants the money he's giving to charity to be spent in his lifetime. Endowing a school would necessarily prevent this goal.

You could have some sort of "degraded" resume version in .rtf. It seems like .rtf is decent, but doesn't have as much customization as a word document. Of course, I could be wrong. It's not the best solution, but it is something that can be
