That's a good criticism. The comparison is more to cellular providers where there's open access to the same underlying infrastructure, and we have consistently good pricing nationwide thanks to competition. The point in referencin

What seems to actually work is increasing market competitiveness. The open access rules that gave us MVNOs appear to have worked great. Texas electric customers have lots of choice and lower costs under similar rules. These broadband subsid

In California we have the CPUC which regulates utilities. Our three biggest utilities charge around 3x the national average for electricity. The largest--PG&E--has also been setting the state on fire and blowing up neighborhoods. It doe

Solar panels and batteries are so cheap now that I expect a lot of SFHes in California to go off-grid when the income-graded access charge hits. My SFH is in the south bay and I disconnected in November.

I'm good about keeping my wrists straight; it's not a palm problem. I very frequently want to tap and then move, but end up erroneously dragging. Regarding the blanket; it's cool indoors here and so blankets are a fact of lif

I've done that and have had zero errors after running as many loops as completed overnight (if memory serves, just under ten full loops of memtest86+). But I agree with the intuition; I was also suspicious of memory.

Deepest apologies; I meant to say grille. Regardless of the flow direction, I am constantly blocking the aperture with my legs or blanket. The touchpad frequently misidentifies movement as taps, something that hasn't been a problem for

My AMD Framework 13 occasionally hangs and requires hard reset to come back to life. No errors are generated. As far as I can tell it instantly and unpredictably stops executing any instructions at all. There hasn't been a driver or fi

How do you actually implement this? Waste pipes are huge compared to supply pipes, and rarely take even remotely similar paths. In my home, which I'm repairing right now, I have one water heater but three different waste egresses from

LiDAR transmit power is practically only limited by eye safety. And retinas are fixed size while the aperture of your transceiver isn't. Get a big lens and you can transmit a lot of power and collect a lot of reflected photos.

Sensors and their ranges aren't the right thing to point to. Off-the-shelf options are typically geared towards the ranges useful for passenger vehicles because that's where the volume is, but with money and time one can design so

I would start by wanting to know about the impact and benefit relative to other activities which we already do. Like how's it compare to various flavors of farming?

Is there a way to know how much to care? We do all sorts of things that displace species, so having some way of contextualizing and weighting the harm against the benefit would be helpful.

PG&E is higher: https://www.pge.com/tariffs/assets/pdf/tariffbook/ELEC_SCHED... I think California's IOUs are selling the most expensive electricity of any major provider in the nation.

Speculation on my part, but most memory chips (DRAM, flash, EEPROM) that I've seen sold are measured in bits rather than bytes. That might be because some of them aren't divided into or accessed in bytes. Or, as you say, it's

Good news, my California town makes terracing so difficult to do that it might as well be illegal. So when it rains there's rapid runoff into a creek that makes a beeline for the ocean.

How do we get to a more decisive government that doesn't try to make everything a priority (especially things that are at odds with each other)? Is it to reduce direct participation and rely on representation (remove public hearings)?
