> This EU law has made security far worse. I don't get it. Why not release it now and start the timer now? Shitty OEMs would get in trouble (not Google) and that would be a fantastic outcome. Am I missing something?

Note these are not the same as the Android "device trees" they stopped publishing with the Android 16 release.

I'm just presenting my exotic point of view - since that developer verification would only be needed to run apps on the "stock OS" (which I consider bad), then deliberately excluding it could promote using LineageOS/Grap

I'd agree because I'd feel the same :) As to relevance to the article - I'm not cheering that much because if Google made "stock OS" even worse then maybe more users would flock to LineageOS/GrapheneOS which wo

I have to admit I couldn't even understand this problem, because for me the "stock OS" is already unbearable and I'd simply never be able to use it - I've never used it for more than a hour..

Requiring a particular app for something that could be achieved by scanning a code (displayed on a screen) is bullshit. And let me guess - then they'll use Play Integrity API so that you cannot fly if you're not using Google certi

Hmm, do Samsung executives/developers actually use this stuff at home? Does the author who wrote this BS piece actually leave those ads enabled?

No, because I know that "agents" are token burning machines - for me they're less efficient than the chat interface, slower and burning much more tokens. I'm not surprised that AI companies would want me to use them thou

In case you want to save sources with the ability to fetch all possible lazy chunks, last year I made a tool to do exactly that: https://github.com/zb3/getfrontend (note it won't work on apps.apple.com because app

Tangentially related, but last year I've made a tool to recover original sources from web apps which expose source maps (with the sourcesContent value present), including enumerating all lazily loaded chunks: https://github.

It seems you missed my main point - the whole point is to fight for this right to reflash a custom ROM, because they're slowly coming for that too. First Play Integrity, now no AOSP releases and more vendors disabling bootloader unlock

Which particular thing you consider inconvenient or even annoying? You can even install Google Play there. I see just one minor tradeoff - no face unlock.

Well, I'd rather verify myself with the government identity than accept a stock OS that literally woke me up with a fake message promoting Gemini despite me spending almost 2 hours turning every possible privacy-invasive setting off. T

Another great thing about GrapheneOS (besides security) is that Google Play Services can be installed without elevated privileges and even in a separate profile which can't run in the background. This makes the phone suitable for both

Raw root access isn't what I'd want apps to have.. it's that the Android permission system deliberately limits what the user can consent to, the rest is for "system apps" and to install those you need to unlock boot

Yes (but see my comment about the permission system), however, the future of bootloader unlocking and AOSP is uncertain... :( With one switch, one nasty update (disabling bootloader unlocking on Pixels), Google could kill GrapheneOS..

Note that the Android permission system is designed so that you are not in control by design, some permissions are "not for you" and only for "system apps" which you can't control. This gives Google and device manuf
