It seems totally ridiculous to put pie in the sky faith and trust in one trillion dollar globalist publicly traded corporation over another.

Its more abjectly a moral failing of society that institutions have not aligned to enable free software proliferation. Software, and information in general, have been a prisoners dilemma for time immemorial. The optimization of utility is t

This is such a close minded view of the world that the only way to monetize software is to violate software freedoms to do so. The valuable good in exchange is the developers time, not the code itself - nation states have constructed a goli

Probably the greatest lie of the boomer generation was the presumption that quarter acre single family stick homes were ever going to be, in the long run, "inexpensive". The externalities have come back to bite society at large in

In both the phone and PC space I do not understand the need to do this at all. There is commoditization of the market on the low end, but high end products that compete with iphones and macbooks are definitely not commodity and there is amp

I'd hope a metro area of 13 million people could drive transit construction in the 21st century in the general case, but cities all over the US continue to impress on their total failure to do so.

The alternative was back in the day when clickjackers could install Actionscript malware without a prompt that rootkitted the whole computer. Sandboxing and prompts are a definite win.

> busing homeless out of main areas Something is really wrong with the world when a city throwing around billions of dollars for a sports competition thinks just moving homeless people out of the way is an ethical answer to the problem.

Thats exactly the trap, though. You are renting and owning at the same time, which is the worst of both worlds - you are more stuck than any average renter because you have this depreciating house on top of land you don't own that is i

Housing is a basic necessity, using it as an investment allocates scarce finite resources to you when you don't need it while consuming limited supply thus reducing the available stock for those that do. The business of buying and sell

Housing demand, despite what NIMBYs might think in the Bay Area, is not infinite at any price point. Eventually all the people that want to live in an area do live in that area and equilibrium is reached. For much of human history, that is

There is tremendous housing scarcity where housing is scarce and in demand, such as with transit access to major metro areas. The depreciating housing is in places people don't want to live. In general modern societies are centralizing

I'd massively prefer to live on the 25th floor of block apartments with public transit access for $100 a month than to have no such option and be forced to toil a quarter of my adult life to have way more space than I want or need.

In rural areas at least it is not going to cost 40k a mile to run coax. Those kinds of areas are almost always serviced by overhead utility lines that already exist, and just running a new line on those poles just requires township permit.
