I just know I've never found a prime with this method, that PFGW didn't say was a prime. n^2-2 doesn't always pass the Fermat test, but if it does, it is always a prime. I think it's base 2. Is that an okay answer? I'll clarify in this thre

I have a result which shows that a squared number minus 2, if put through the fermat test (modular exponentiation), is always prime. I got some 30k digit primes this way, but I couldn't get mathematicians interested in it. They'd just ignor

Also, the Marble Madness construction set. And most ridiculously, Boulderdash IV had a constructor. Me and a friend made levels so complex, we forgot how to complete them. It was all to do with timing (!).

You can cover any song you like and publish it. Just contact the Song Rights Organisation that deals with that song. ASCAP is one. I once covered the Outrun theme, and managed to find the guy who composed it, who said go ahead. (When he hea

Brewster Kahle (Archive.org) made a small fortune by selling WAIS (Wide Area Information Server), which made each machine a search engine, and used a protocol to request from all engines. Developed in the 80s. Unfortunately, the Web has gon

Also, do lower death rates mean lower birth rates? I think so - the basic idea being people have less kids. That's because having more kids is an insurance policy for a high death rate.

My point was that the Python sketch based on the tinned food turned into the e-mail SPAM meme. The sketch was the basis of the e-mail term, in other words, in computing folklore, by saying that e-mail SPAM comes with everything. I'm not s

The purpose of the reference count is to only deallocate memory once. You create it (copy constructor, count = 1), you pass it to a function (count = 2), come out of the function (destructor, count = 1) and finally return from the original

I don't know if many people realise it, but the use of the term 'spam' came from a Monty Python sketch originally. It's not too difficult to correlate what they meant: You can have whatever you want, as long as it's with spam.

It's a bit hard to explain, but it's a copy constructor. Not sure of all the details right now, but I think when it is passes to another function (as a parameter), the reference count goes up, and when it returns (destructor), it goes down.

I wrote a C++ class (compatible with STL's vector class), and it had an internal reference counter. If the counter went to 0, it would de-allocate the memory and shut the vector down. It works pretty well, and avoids the need for a garbage
