A friend of mine agrees: Awful. So why did the first capital 'G' favicon work? Simple - it's the first (large) letter on the search page!

My guess is they'll dump it and delete everyone's data as soon as the share price tanks. Google is apparently not so rich and powerful that they can't shut down an (!) online notepad.

I made that my sound in Trillian too. Except, I had to edit it in audio editor Cooledit to compress it, etc.

There's a certain irony when you consider that Xanadu (funded by Autodesk) could have been the entire Web, now she's picking up scraps of that in Yahoo.

But as far as I can tell, there were more junk bond successes than failures. But I admit, when Michael Milken was arrested, it all came tumbling down for Drexel, and I can't remember any book saying exactly who failed with Milken's attentio

I've read a few books on junk bonds, and if they were a Martingale / pyramid, how come Nelson Peltz, Carl Icahn, MCI, et al, became (and still are) billionaires? They made out like bandits.

I agree, especially about the 'private' part. Going public (I think) tends to have value by having a lot of employees. Staying private won't affect the market cap if they lay people off. I'm not saying slash and burn, just that the lowest l

It's a shame SpaceX has so many employees. They're offering a 4x saving on a rocket trip, but I think it could be 10x by cutting out dead wood from mission control (eg, more automation) while it's still possible.

Living room - not garage! Explains what eBAyISAPI.dll means. Uses Oracle soon after, not MySQL. Hit compiler limits (don't we all?) They keep hacking it without a proper overview. Descends into gibberish in about 2002.

Audioscrobbler made sense, but now I look at Last.fm, search for bands that were quite popular there in 2006, but now are in the low single digits of playbacks. I think Last.fm has lost the plot, no matter how many gigabytes its market cap

I learned SQL at University, but that was 5 years ago so I'm a bit rusty. There's 1 table with a primary key (a string ID), which is used for rows with duplicate ID's, so in theory MySQL should be quick with it. Thanks for the info, I'll ha

I only just starting using MySQL to store tables of around 100,000 entries. But MySQL would take literally > 30 seconds (sometimes taking minutes) for a query that PostgreSQL (which I installed after it) can handle in 10 seconds. It see

I meant SAP, but that or SAS is about 'business intelligence', which means running an organisation - staffing, payroll, etc, but certainly not jet engines. My Aunt programs in SAP for a University. So SAP determines how businesses are run,
