It says it'll only halve the key length (eg, from 256 down to 128). I think the most promising factoring algorithm would involve finding a halfway point repeatedly so it would complete in about 256 steps, but I have no idea how to find that

In 2006, I wanted to see if it was possible, so I wrote (in C++) a virtual CPU with 2 registers (A and Program Counter) and input (In/Out ports) and the basic idea was it'd log everything (per cycle) in a reversable form. Unfortunately I wa

There is a way to test the 'advantage' of a gambling method. Take the bankroll (eg, how much money you have now, starting at 0), and the amount bet EVER (on whatever number the bets were), and divide the amount bet by the bankroll. So we've

I once figured out it might be possible to 'fold' a martingale so it occurs in less spins. I think the basic idea was making full use of the table limit from the first bet (eg, table limit is 100, normally you'd bet 2 to double the loss of

One interesting thing about C64 vs Spectrum is the C64 had a thriving 'warez' scene. For instance, there were tons of packers (eg, like a ZIP file) on the C64 (to save disk and tape space), and literally none on the Spectrum!

I mean that materials are theoretically cheaper because of the low exchange rate, and so is labour.

Also, if you can generate rocket fuel with internal labour (not imported), you can outdo the Americans in rocket fuel cost by a maybe 10x factor (I mean India here, or any economy like Thailand, with a different 'gearing' from the US dollar

Define greed? Selling a 2-bit p2p company for 1.6 BILLION and then bitching about it. Even the YouTube guys haven't done that and theirs was a bigger initial investment. [Edit: Not saying the YouTube guys would, but it's a good comparison]

That's a new angle on this: That eBay are messing around with the Skype code. My best guess is, tampering with superpeers to get short-term speed ups, versus long-term messing up Skype fundamentally.

I once wrote a 3x3 pixel bitmap (just 1-colour pixels) font on my ZX Spectrum in Art Studio! The main problem was the S - it had to have a diagonal.

I don't know if this what the paper is about, but it seems clear that you just send the goods and have a navigation computer - with no-one aboard. Then it's only the goods that age - which means a long best-before date.

All I ever dialed from my Commodore 64 (the SID chip generated bluebox tones) in 1993 was the They Might Be Giants band dial-a-song, which played a new tune every day. (718 397 6962). Also, Captain Crunch (John Draper) made a $1 million in
