I meant that it's doing so well precisely because he's still there, and that's why I'm surprised (that he's still there). He really cares!

I didn't realise Chad Hurley (YouTube CEO) still worked for Google. Also amazing (from Wikipedia) is how much stock he managed to keep onto (after acquisition) when the early expenses were presumably so high.

It 503's if too many pages are requested at once... However, you can submit a link to the Internet Archive and they'll spider that Geocities site. I asked the IA to save all that data. I don't know if it was because of my suggestion, and it

Google has a 'captcha' on Google Groups which prevents mass copying. There is a guy with those tapes, but they're the early 80s - I don't know where Dejanews got their original archives. But that guy would be a start.

I'm not name dropping, but I have exchanged emails with Brewster Kahle of the Internet Archive, and he's taken a couple of my ideas under advisement.

Time to take back Usenet and build another archive independently of Google, somehow.

Very very amazing! On another subject, I want some kind of 'piano player' with pistons like this piano, and you attach it to a non-MIDI instrument and it plays the keys via MIDI data, without having to retrofit it electronically.

I'm a UK citizen and I apparently have none, because I requested for me and Don Simpson (the deceased film producer), and they only said 'No file on Don Simpson' - didn't even say 'No file on [Zandorg]'.

Reminds me of a recent article in BoingBoing, about some Arabic city (Dubai?) where people have to build skyscrapers to pay their way out of poverty, and they have to drink almost-salty water instead of fresh water, in bunks, etc. Ah Google

A few weeks ago, I took about 4 hours to think up a domain not taken, and bought it for 5 years. Much cheaper (on an hourly rate) than paying a squatter, for example, $2000!

Geocities is due to be shut down. Thanks perhaps to me, Archive.org is mirroring all the pages they can, but bizarrely, Geocities have anti-spidering 503 pages, so it's hard to access the pages.
