Good interview. Mark really is a great interviewee - except when he's on Oprah.

My guess is Google found it useful, and wanted to share it, so it's their gift to the world.

Well, I read they bought high yield bonds (known as junk bonds in the 80s), to get them through a nasty period where the IPO markets had dried up, and VC obviously couldn't fund a late-stage company. So maybe it's both bonds and improvement

Absolutely a great company, they did everything right. I think junk bonds got them through the dotcom collapse. When Half.com let people exchange 2nd-hand books, it was USA only. Then Amazon introduced 3rd-party sellers in about 2003 in the

I agree. How can he say ALL electronic artists are nerds? What about Portishead? Michael Jackson? The Human League? 'Nerd' isn't even an insult in my book.

Recently I bought an Akai S950, a popular sampler used by Moby (and others), and it is amazing how much better it sounds than a software sampler - especially if you route the 8 outputs through an old mixing desk and adjust EQ/level (and put

Those too. Basically, if you price the book at 1p, Amazon doesn't get their 15% (?) cut, which is why so many sellers charge 1p (or 1 cent). But if the postage is more than £2.75 (in the UK at least), they have to charge more, and then Amaz

Computers aren't getting faster as quick as they used to (certainly not to Moore's Law) so the Microsoft strategy that always assumed faster hardware, is a flop. Which means a properly optimised OS can sell more, ultimately (eg, no endless

My track Paris Thru the Tears scores a whopping 7.9! :-D It was recorded on analogue synths (£1500 + £200), a HardSID slaved to an old P300 running Windows 98, an old Akai sampler (which cost £100), and 2 crappy mixing desks (£75 and £100)
