I noticed an interesting phenomenon on Ebay. Looking up Krugerrands (after reference to them in a song), I found out about gold coins. Whatever country issues them, they all go for their weight in gold - even by auction. Perhaps Ebay is a g

(c) The Estate of Isaac Asimov... [Edit] Seriously, I used to buy 2nd-hand short story books to get to stories like this (which I've read), but if it has a wider readership this way, but people buy novels, maybe that's copyright's intent?

I think the space lottery idea is a great way for poor people to go into space.

Very classy-looking! I'm surprised this is 'art' and not 'industrial design'.

I once borrowed a cool trackball from a friend, and I discovered that playing Doom with it was a cinch. I was whizzing around and blasting anything moving. It was incredible!

It's wierd, I read long articles like this, and think "This is more readable than modern webpages" even though it's a HUGE article. Is it possible people aren't writing as well as in 1993? I'm guilty too - I used to write 20,000 word web-ba

But the biggest cost would be the elevator itself, rather than the platform required to hold it. But still, it sounds like something from a Bruce Sterling novel, so it gets my vote.

I tried using Joost. It was obviously using SDL, and had a kind of zooming video interface. It was so impossible to figure out the user interface, that I never got to see any videos!

I'm on Wave and it's really slow. There's this weird artificial scrollbar tab and it's 10x slower than a normal scrollbar. I hope it gets sped up a bit. Also, a native client makes more sense than chucking a ton of crap in a browser window.

I had this wierd thing where I'd flip to Chrome, and it'd draw its screen line by line, like a broken Amiga. I switched to Firefox after that. [I was using Chrome because of wanting to use Google Wave).

I got a cheap invite off eBay (about $4.50) so I could get stuck in with the D&D side of things. So far, I'm still confused, having never played a D&D, but slowly getting there.

There's a field of sheep behind and above where I live, and basically they do nothing but eat. I think the only way they can get enough energy to survive is to just eat ALL the time.

If someone could guarantee say 100 years of webpage hosting and uptime, for a cheap fixed one-time cost, I think they could make a lot of money AND stop the massive page-drain of the Web today.

I think the Internet Archive got involved in this too. I asked the head of the IA if they could just get Yahoo to give them the hard disks and stuff them wholesale in the IA. But in the end, the IA put a 'spider' page on one of the main Geo

I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't know how many registers code should use. However - it's not C code, it's assembly code, so it seems unfair to blame gcc - a C compiler.
