I mean, Unreal Engine and CRYEngine are source-available if not open-source. I'm not sure that it's so far-fetched to call for the open-sourcing of game technology like engines.

I'm not totally versed in Swift. In the example provided is it ambiguous because the closure captures `count` and count itself is being modified by the method calling the block? I don't understand why this is an example of an unsa

That seems even less reasonable to me. You're saying that you use snopes regularly, presumably because of their dedication to accurate reporting, and are frustrated that you can't correct on "something as trivial as 'sha

it is wild to me how many people are in this thread saying "Snopes is partisan" or "Snopes is biased" or "Snopes is not a real fact checker" and who are also entirely unable to provide any actual evidence. A li

Wait. Your issue with snopes is that they said "there is no meaningful evidence that [x] is true" and you're mad that when you said "but I have anecdata" they weren't interested? that's not how this works.

Seems to me like one of the key differences is in how much data is actually collected. DDG claims in their blog post that they send no PII to apple, they're just using apple to provide a map view and search data. I'm not even sure

I agree, but have one nitpick - it's not that the free market can't sort this out, but that this is exactly the solution the free market is set up to organically create. Can't afford the tech? Sell your identity to marketers!

It seems to me that no matter what happens two classes of users are going to be created: those that can pay for security and those that cannot. Ultimately Apple's pricing means all their users are first class - hence security as a brea

You’re right that employers must make up the difference by law, and I’m sure that many workers with tipped wages may take home more than their minimum wage equivalent, however that is not the norm, and the tipping wage has significantly wor

One thing to keep in mind is that in many states tipped minimum wage is significantly lower than hourly minimum wage. As low as $2.50 an hour. Tipping is bad for everybody, including the workers involved, but framing tipping as purely a res

I agree that programming is very different today than it was in the 50s and 60s but I absolutely disagree that it was high paying or elite. Programming was considered a step above secretarial work[0] and women were actively encouraged to en
